i just bought a HO IM off a fellow org member on here, and am planmning on buying the custom phenolic flange chris fontana makes for better fit from the HO IM onto the 2.4 head. besdies drilling and slotting out the necessasry areas and needing RTV sillicone, i found out that i would need 2 sorts of IM gaskets, 2.3 i believe. one i would leave stock for the HO IM and the other i would need to cut (cut where the studs and bolts go into right?) to align onto the 2.4 head. i was wondering where i could go and purchase IM gasket kit for the 2.3, or i just realize an idea and why not get a 2.4 IM gasket kit and cut the holes for the HO IM? correct me on any areas where im totally incoorect and enlighten me on the steps/process for this to work. thanks in advance everyone. happy holidays
The biggest problem is that the 2.4 Gasket is hard plastic with a silicone type material filled in the center, I used 2 2.3L gaskets, just make sure you elongate and slot the holes on the gasket as you do on the manifold.
when you go to the auto parts store what I asked for was for a couple of intake manifold gaskets for a 95 2.3L oldsmobile Achieva.
and well they worked, even though the manifold was from a pontiac grand am.
this is how I did the spacer.
Intake manifold > 2.3 gasket > phenolic spacer > another gasket > head.
and you do know you need to drill a couple of the holes lower on the actual manifold right? here this guide will help you along.
