I have a question about the Cobalt
Monday, September 19, 2005 5:13 PM
OK here is my question:
I bought my Cobalt on June 14, 2005. I know that the Cavalier is a J-Body. I also know that the Cobalt was replacing the Cavalier. What does that make the Cobalt, a J-Body? If not, then what is it considered?

Its called a "Delta" body by everyone who doesn't work for G.M. for those of us who do and know better its called an "A" body car. Whatever you do don't ask a G.M. dealer about a delta car as you'll confuse some of them.

We covered this a while back in a different forum but its cool I don't mind answering again as some newer members may not have known.

And yet you are still not telling the whole story... Again.

GM wrote: GM uses the term "architecture" to signify a set of common components, performance characteristics, a common manufacturing process, a range of dimensions and connecting points for key component systems.

This is strait from GM and this is how the corporate and many others through out GM calls them.
But yes, the dealer will/may call it a A-body as the "technical name."

/\ /\ /\ /\ What "whole story" are you talking about? I swear this is the ONLY car built by G.M. that eveyone insists on calling by its "architecturely" name. Why is that ? Perhaps its cause noone likes to be corrected and insists on calling things by the wrong name.
How many people referr to the "Epselon" platform or the "Kappa" body cars? None and you know why? ITS NOT THERE NAMES THATS WHY !!!!

Please teach people the correct names for the car as all your doing is spreading
ignorance.

Its the Saab and the new "Z"body malibu thats built on the Epsilon platform and it was the old " V" Caddy Cateria and now the GTO that are Kappa bodies. Which leaves the burning question........ Where are the Lamda Loo body cars.

Seriously guys teach people the correct things as its not good to teach them incorrectly.

Sorry If I came off like a jerk Goodwrench my bad. You do give tons of good info but I'm surprised your not with me on this as you seem like one who would want people to know better.

1. Take your own advice.
2. Go and argue to GM and the whole 9 yards and not with me. As that is a direct quote taken from GM themselves
3. GTO is not under the Kappa platform
4. "Lambda" is under the Vue & Equinox. And it will spread to GM's next minivan
5. Get used to the Greek names as this how GM is referring to them, yes I know it is not how YOU (technical) refer to them, but the rest of the world does (Corporates, CEOs, Press, GM internal). I stated it out pretty clear on how it works on the first post.
6. I am not 100% with you because like I said; "you are still not telling the whole story." As again my first post clearly states how GM uses them.

#4 should say:
4. "Lambda" will be GM's next minivan platform and possible small SUV.

Ooops!

I wasn't argueing with you just asking you why you guys are insisting on calling the car by an incorect name thats all.

As for the GTO its built on the same chassis that the Cateria was and if I not mistaken wasn't the Caterias platform called the Kappa? Which would make the GTO a Kappa
as well

I have nothing against these greek names but I would have thought you guys would have wanted to know the correct names that we actualy call the cars at the dealership level since thats where you'll be going to find things for them and not from the people who design them. But hey if your fine with calling them by the wrong names then hey who am I to stop you.

If 20 people call it the wrong name and you start calling it that as well all it means is now these 21 people calling by the wrong name.

no offense, but if i'd ever go to a dealer to ask about parts for them, i'd ask for parts for the cobalt. most people i have met at dealerships are stupid beyond words anyways.

and everywhere i have ever seen the "platform" mentioned for the cobalt, they refer to it as the Delta.

/\ /\ /\ PLATFORM = DELTA BODY = "A" You all have no problem caling a Cavalier or Sunfire a "J" body so whats the problem calling the Cobalt an "A" body?
I'm just wondering why this is the only car referred to by its PLATFORM name and NOT
its real name.
