Whats with the stock intake?
Friday, September 09, 2005 6:36 PM
I took a look at my air filter tonight to see if i needed a new one because i just got the car and i noticed that there wasn't a hole in the air box for air to come in. so i looked all arround inside it, felt around and there is no hole, no opening. Its just one big solid plastic box. What is up with that????

no it flows to your right fenders ... .the box goes to a tube through a hole in engine bay down to the innder fenders ...i may have said it all wrong but its not a closed box ...

Well, simple concept. If the box was solid, your car would not work. No air, No go.

Under the Filter on the lower right side is a hole, that goes behind the battery into the driver side fender well, The inlet is in the area piece known as the Bong.

BTW, your 1998 Pontiac Sunfire
Body Style: Coupe
Color: Dark Green
Engine: 2.2L DOHC "Ecotec"
Transmission: Automatic
Interior: Gray and Black

Is not an Ecotec engine.

It is a 2.2L, But its a 2.2L 2200 I4 OHV

not the 2.2L DOHC found in 2003+ models.

oopse messd that up thanks for tellin me about that. I swear i looked all over that thing i must have missed it some how. So why are the CAI ive seen curve back to were the air box is? shouldn't they go out front where the air comes in better?

The CAI do go into the front fender the same way relitively.

Pics from Induction Dynamics, of the 2200 with a CAI:

Then its not a CAI. A CAI, or Cold Air Intake, take air from behind the front bumper or inside a wheel well for a "sometimes" Cooler air charge. A Short ram, or Warm Air Intake, is like what i have, A filter sits in the area bside the battery, Where the old air box used to be.
