does this work?

not really a noob but i have a noob question. Ok heres the deal, i need an intake boot so i can put 2 intake tubes together. I found this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-COLD-AIR-INTAKE-BYPASS-VALVE-ECLIPSE-CAVALIER-NEON_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38634QQitemZ7997853202QQrdZ1

would it be better to use this instead of a boot? In other words does this help my car at all? or is it just an obstruction to incoming air and actually affect my cars performance?

thanks beforehand

They work, but I wouldn't buy from him. He has 12 negative feedbacks in the past month.

I would only buy that if you have a cold air intake. A bypass valve only keeps water from getting in your intake.

Unless you are going into a river or off-roading, you don't need it. It is designed, like Jdody2nr said, to keep water out. The description he gave on ebay is incorrect, I believe. Just my 2cents!

As per the product in question, Its placement in the intake tract is correct, but the rest of the description is wrong.

It needs to be in the highest point of your intake tract, usually, right before the TB, except in cases like the pontiac Vibe with its V V T I engine, and even the eco.

The idea is that, if you have a CAI, and your cone filter is submerged in either flooded roads or even just deep puddles, Water will not be pulled into your engine.

Its kinda like putting a hole in a drinking straw. Put one end in some water, put the hole above the water line, now try to drink. You should get much more air then water. HOWEVER, one big downside. If your entire engine compartment was submerged in water, it will not help you.

Heres the deal with these bypass valves....if u spray or splash water into the filter it does not work.....the only time the bypass works is when the entire filter is submerged in water. I actually watched a video where they tested them with a vaccum and when u put like half the filter in the water it just sucks it right up.....
