hey everyone whats up? awsome site you have here, i dont own a j-body anymore (had 3) haha but i might be in the market for another one. All the ones i had were 3.1's and a 5 speed.....now im lookin at a 97-99 Z24 but im worried about the reliability of the 2.4 quad 4. Anybody have problems with these?? i plan on drivin it hard every now and then..or would i be better off gettin the ecotec?? pros/cons of the two engines?? any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks if this is already awnsered some where else point me in that direction
im not to sure about the ecotec.. But i do have 2.4 and i like it... never had any problems out of it.. it does goe through a 1 qaurt of oil in about 3500 miles.. mine is 01 with 62000 on it... Hope that helps
well you cant get an ecotec in a 97-99 so you would want a 2002 or newer to even consider that. the LD9 and the ecotec are both good engines with a lot of potential! personally i love my car it is the last year the z24 was sold in the US and the only year with the ground effects package it has.. not to mention that GM has a supercharger kit for the LD9 and very soon *cough maybe* for the ecotec that make the car SOOOO much more fun to drive

yea i knew the ecotec came in the newer ones...i know a little about the 2.4 but i don't know really anything about the ecotec's...i drove a newer 4 door sunfire automatic with the ecotec (it was in the shop for some work) and it seemed like it worked pretty good.a buddy of mine as a 99 sunfire gt that seems to take quit a bit of abuse but the trans blew up in it (5spd) is that common?? anyway im just wondering which engine would take the abuse better, i don't plan on burnin the guts out of it but it will deffinetly see some high rpm shifts (friend has a GSR gotta have somethin to show him that the domestics are just as good lol)

^^check out the latest issue of Chevy High Performance magazine and look for the little evil four article. They clearly state that the eco block can withstand more than 1000 HP and the crank about 500. Hope this helps. Thats all I know since I own a OHV.
