What are the chances a 2004 or 2005 GTO engine or another Pontiac or GM engine could be put into a 99 sunfire and have it all actually work? If it's possible, how much would it be and how much work would need to go into it?
I want to keep my car and not get another one when she dies, so when it all happens, I'd like to just be able to get a new engine. What else would I need to get?
I'm really new to all of this, so please excuse any ignorance in this post.
theres a few Pontiac engines that you can put into it
the 3800 Supercharged engine( from a GTP) can fit as well as a few others do a search in the performance forum and im sure you will come up with somethin
heyyy... you available? haha.... just messing
leghumper style. i doubt it would work... it would take a long time, tons of custom frame and possibly body modification, and cost thousands and thousands of dollars.

it cost a heck of a lot more than what you are probaly willing to spend.
but some have put the 3800 supercharged engine in there cavs. it be "eaiser" than a motor from a GTO
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Just add the word 'girl' to the topic title and you get lots of help.
Ignore all those posts.. It's a direct bolton! That LS2 will have no problem fitting in your Sunfire.. Just drop it in and plug in your wiring harness, and that's it!
Dark blue 2002 Z24, 2.4 Ltr.
...lone wolf is messing with you.
It is not a direct bolt-on, I don't think it'd fit without all of the fender cutting / mount fabbing in the world.
HOWEVER...look into jbp (jbodyperformance.com)...they've got a short block replacement 2.2 engine you might be interested in...pushes out quite a bit of power, but I've heard about some tuning issues with em. I may be looking into one when my ohv goes kaput. (check out my profile if u like, maybe give you some ideas).
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
these threads with these kinds of questions crack me up. how bout you go to a certified mechanic and ask him about it. or go buy the engine, take it to said mechanic, and say put this (point to engine) in that (point to car) and youll end up where u want a lot quicker then anyone on the org guesstimating what it will cost
Civickiller
there was a cav on ebay not so long ago with a 454 and rear-wheel drive, so anything is possible
Anything is possible if you have the money and time to do it. I would go with the 3800 like 99redz24 said. Raven did it, do some searches in the performance forum and see whats out there.
the quote function owns me
i'm new here. but i'm an automotive tech.and anything is possible.you would have to check on the bolt patterns. and you will have to see if the wireing harness is the same for the computer because your computer in your sunfire wont run the 3800 motor. you will have to run the whole wiring harness. because on the different in 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder.there is a lot of stuff involved.and money unless you have alot of connections. i hope this helps you out.
And if anybody is wondering, Yes I did save that pic
Take a cavalier engine and swap it with the pontiac its pretty much an exact swap out same 2.4 liter engine try it or check more info on it
what was the hp rated on that car?
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
I'm not sure putting in the exact same engine would be any fun. There have been a few V6 swaps around here. Search the performance forum like everyone has said. But hey, to each their own
Here's another V8 cav.
PHOTOSHOP! by me no less...
Oh and P.S. welcome to the .org. Now read my sig.

Sorry, fella, no one's running me off.
I hate to be the reality check
but if you have to ask what to do, why bother because you can't do it.
if you had/knew anyone who had the resources, knowledge, experience, tools or facilities, you wouldn't be posting "how do I..." you'd be posting "hey look what I did!"
so just forget about it...
you'd need the engine which is more than your car from the dealership,
motor mounts, custom engine cradle, a channel for the transmission, the transmission itself, tranny mounts, driveshafts, rear end, custom rear suspension since the stuff in the car stock won't work, custom exhaust since it has no where to go with the tranny in the way, chassis reinforcement since you butchered it to get the transmission in...
if you have to post on the internet how to do it, you can't so just forget it
next time just search other people asking this Q cuz it gets asked like every day and watch them get ripped a new one. There's no point. Whoever can do it is under their car with a plasma cutter... not posting on the org.
not saying it can't be done... but if you need a laundry list of what to do sell your car and buy one with a v8 in it already

Alright, let me point something out. I'm new. I did not post this in the performance forum. I posted it in Newbies, as in I am new, I don't know what I'm doing, I would like guidance. You're right,
if I knew someone, I wouldn't have posted. Unforetunately for me I don't have the same privelages and intelligence that you do.
If you're so annoyed by a question that apparently gets asked daily, point out the thread with the answer to the person first. My question was already answered a few posts ago; I got my help and the thread was laid to rest. If you don't like the topic, close the thread. You weren't directly asked. I thought this site was supposed to help.

Just replace the engine with what you have already. There is no shortage of Cavalier/Sunfire engines.
