Ok sorry guys i searched the forums but found nothing on this. What the heck is an air breather.... and what does it do.... well more what does it do... it looks like a filter that goes on top of the valve cover gasket but what good does it do and what do ya do with the hose that goes to it? sorry for the noob post but there is a reason we are called noobs lol
i would answer that for you but i have no idea what your talking about..i dont even know what engine your refering to..sorry
THE GUY SURE LOOKS LIKE PLANT FOOD TO ME!!!
Its a 2.2l 98 cavi im online now mw189 on aim. its a lil filter that looks like it attatches to the vavle cover. normally it has a hose connected to it. it sounds like it just lets air pressure or vaccum pressure out of the vavle cover but not sure.....
^ Smarter than your average newbie...
Thats exactly what its for. Stock its routed back into the intake because sometimes there is oil that goes through there, so it gets burned off. If you have a filter on there, make sure to check it often so it doesn't get clogged.

Sweet maybe im not such a noob after all lol.... do anything powergain wise im thinking probably not much if anything at all. I do have a wai head is being ported and polished and new exhaust is comming
more of a maintenance deal. since your engine wont be sucking in the oil soaked air from the crankcase your throttle body, intake manifold, and head ports will stay fairly clean, reducing or even eliminating the need for intake tract cleaning. also the crankcase air is hot and oily so without it the air going into the engine the air charge will be slightly cleaner and cooler, helping overall performance in a very small way.

just like the pcv filter except that it relieves corrosive gasses that accumulate in the crankcase, sends them into the intake(is this a good idea?) or into the exaust,
where they are burned, then scrubbed by the catalytic.
no power to gain here, more of a way to keep your internals lasting longer.
not to mention looking pretty sexy.
