i was wondering if anyone remembers a posting about how cops are not allowed to look under the hood but i cant find it can some one send it to me
i beleive they need a warrant, just like if they wanted to search ur trunk....
yea but for the most part they need a warrant, is it the same for under the hood?
If they find that you have something illegal in your car, they then have reasonable suspicion to search the entire car, under the hood or not.
But I don't believe they can walk up to your car and demand you open the hood without suspicion that you have something illegal hidden in your car.

Yea I got pulled over and he looked at the car and comented on my blinkers not being leagal and my licence plate covers. thats when he asked me to open my hood, but nothing ilegal under there.
ended up leaving telling me to chenge the blinkers, plate covers, and my muffler
the muffler is on and staying on....this all hapened about 2 months ago.

where im going with this is before i do anything to my car i want to make sure what the cops can and cannot do when they pull me over and a few of my buddies have had there cars search for nothing other then the cop was being an @!#$

What are you worried about a cop looking under the hood for. Running an open header out the side is the only illegal thing i can think of. Is there really any other Illegal upgrades that are plain site from opening the hood?

If they want to search your car they will ask you can they search your car if you say yes then you have agreed to let them... if you say no then they have their reasonable suspicion that they need to search it.
Watch out for the rice smelling dogs. They will get you every time.

They can't use that fact that you didnt agree to a search as reasonable suspicion, it was argued in the supreme court not to long ago.
yeah it takes a decent amount of suspicion to search a car. Cops came barrelling toward me in a baseball park after midnight one time, because vandalism had been taking place lately. They still had to ask me to search my car (I said yes like a 16 year old dope at the time). Just shoulda said no so I coulda gotten on my way.

LOL The same thing kinda happened to me last Sunday night. I work in NYC on weekends, which is 4 hours away from my small ass town in PA. My shift ended at around 9pm so I got to town around 1:15am. I was talking to a friend of mine on my cell phone so I pulled into a UNIMART (a local gas station in my area) parking lot and sat there for a while talking on my cell. About 25 minutes later I got off the phone and started making a a u-turn to leave the parking lot and go home. As I was pulling out a police vehicle started pulling in and also made a u-turn and pulled right out behind me. I thought that was kind of weird, but thought nothing of it since he didn't have his lights going or anything. I'm driving the street heading home and when I was approaching the intersection the cop flicks his sirens and lights on and two other police cars cut me off and back me in so my car can't move. I thought to myself, "WTF?!"...and rolled down my windows. The cops walked up to my cars flash lights looking in my windows and I asked one of them "Is there a problem officer?"... He told me that they had suspicion that I was going to rob the UNIMART. I said I was just sitting there in the parking lot talking to a friend on my cell phone. Not like I was trespassing or anything. I even had my lights on inside the car so the guy working the store could see me, since my tints are almost pitch black and at night you can't see through them at all unless my lights are on. I even got out of the car to throw out an energy drink I was drinking, which one of the other cops who couldn't really see through my passenger side window started asking what those cans were in my cup holders. I told them that I got out of work at 9pm and I work 4 hours away, they help keep me awake during the drive. I was kind of getting a little frustrated that I was being interogated just because I sat in a parking lot for 25 minutes. They did a run on my license and registration of course and eventually let me go. I laugh about it now, but damn did they go over board the way they cut me off and stopped me. They could have easily just asked me to pull over earlier instead of following me and cutting me off without even giving me a warning. Suprised they didn't set up police barriers and stand there on my street with shot guns, lol. They must be really bored ass cops in my small ass town.
I got pulled over by the state troopers around 12am on the highway.He wanted to look under my hood for some reason.So i popped the hood for him,and hes looking for vin tags to see if i had a stolen engine in the car or something.I looked at him and i said,this aint no honda,we dont do motor swaps on chevys.So he closed the hood,but the prick still gave me a ticket for my exhaust.

Lol i got pulled over this weekend by a state cop and a county cop cause they thought my headlights were on bright. after an hour of showinmg then that my low beams were just that bright they finally let me go.
he was more than a douche,he was just being a scumbag.The troopers know my car.Every time i drive by a trooper who has someone pulled over,they come out after me and pull me over.Once i got pulled over and i asked him why i was being pulled over,he told me because of my window tint.I said what tint?I rolled my window up to show him i didnt have tinted windows.So he gave me a ticket for something else.One time a cop was convinced i had nitrous in the car.He kept trying to trick me by asking me what my car ran on the juice.So i said the only juice i have is orange juice.I dont think he liked that.I got so many b.s tickets you wouldnt believe.I got a ticket once for a bald tire,along with 5 other tickets.And the reason i was pulled over was because my car was in a so called highspeed chase,lol.
