Question about JBody HVAC....
Monday, May 09, 2005 10:39 PM
WTF was GM thinking putting the HVAC, cupholders, gear shifter all within a 7" space. I'm just starting to notice in my 04 sunfire if my gf and i both have a drink in the cupholder it takes some serious finger dexterity to change the setting from recirc to just top.

Try the 95-99 models , they have teh radio where your HVAC knobs are, I would rather beable to change my stations easier than screw wiith the knobs !

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

IIRC, the Cav's come with 2 holders up front, right?

Fires only have 1 (95-99?) and its about 2" deep. I've learned the hard way, no Taco Bell large drinks in that cup holder. Especially when shifting to 5th, keeps turning on the A/C.

And it is shared by the ashtray/coin depository...

Take a left turn to fast, and, well, time to bust out the steam cleaner...

My question is can I take the bezel out of the older cavalier's and switch it so that my radio is below and the HVAC controls are on top? Cause I have an aftermarket HU that tilts upward and it has a remote so it will work downthere better than the HVAC controls. Is it an easy switch?

i got to hand it to gm though in the 00-02 cavs the drinks got a lil more table with the two cup holders.. I had a 98 and i hated it everytime i would turn a corner with a drink in the holder and i would forget to hold on it die in the ps floorboard.. I dunno how many times i had to stop on the side of the highway right after i got on to clean up the mess..

I can remember when people complained about them being on top. We are one of the reasons that it moved to the bottom. They asked a bunch of people on one of the J-Bashes what they would change. Painted mirrors and door handles were one, the HVAC location was another. If you have a DVD screen the HVAC sucks on top.

Funny stuff.

I just flip my center console open and use the cup holders there. A little uncomfortable at first, but it beats cleaning up 32oz. after a left turn.

I almost always put my drink in the back cupholder since theres no room in the front.

Now if we just had a small enough cup holder for my redbull so i wouldn't have to drive about town holding then it would all be good...

It's a four banger, you gotta bang it four times to get it goin'....

Pre 2000 model cavaliers also had only one cup holder in the front -- and it was pretty much useless because my coffee always fell out of the so called cup 'holder'.
