I got a 03 LS with an ecotec of course.
I was thinking about changing out JUST the stock muffler and throwing on a polished tip too. The "tuner" mufflers would probably be the way to go, but are too loud.
Any ideas or recommendations??
Nothing too loud or obnoxious, but a tiny step up from stock noise level.
THANKS!
A turbo muffler might be the way to go...

I agree with Mr Right Answer up there ^^^^^.
If you want aftermarket, but not as loud, then a turbo muffler is the way to go. It'll give a more mellow rumble than a loud buzz.

What kind of a "Turbo" muffler??
You can get one at Advance or Autozone for like twenty bucks. Magnaflow and Thrush are two brands that come to mind. And I think Edelbrock even makes them.
They aren't expensive, and they have a good tone to them. Not like that pissed off bumble bee sound that a lot of mufflers have.

You're not talking about a glasspack style, are you??
I was thinking just a oval muffler (like dynomax?) to replace the stock oval muffler.
Good idea or bad idea?
I can't remember what kind of shape they have. I'm thinking you can get turbo mufflers that are oval, but don't quote me on it.
They aren't the same as glasspacks though.
Well anyone know of an exact muffler or brand that they'd recommend??
Borla

dynomax
I may not know much about cars, but I know two things....
1) Breaking things is expensive, and
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.
just go to any auto parts store and pick a performance muffler that u like, its can be any brand: flowmaster, magnaflow, ractive, borla, etc.
there isnt any particular mufler that is for your car, so u can pcik whichever you like the most and have it installed.
i bought a straight-through VIBRANT muffler (about $120cdn) and eliminared my second exhaust altogether to eliminate the bent Y (Ys add resistance). It sounds great, with a nice deep tone, and not too loud. I would avoid glass packed unless you want to sound like a hig-pitched civic. Now that I have cold ram air, Im considering reattaching the second, but not until i can figure out a way to eliminate the Y.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Like I said...I just want something just a little louder than stock.
Basically a new muffler that'll straight up replace the stock one (size/shape), but sound a lil' louder.
I know I can pick any muffler, but I was checking to see if there was a preferred one for what I'm looking for.
I guess Dynomax Super Turbo then??

What type of Borla muffler specifically??
Just a turbo muffler from Borla?
turbo, borla boomers, or the pro xs

Flowmaster 60 series will produce a really nice deeper tone. Check out this web site.

I might be thinking of just getting a Dynomax muffler and a polished tip for the end.
i think the obx is a really good muffler which i will be putting on mine soon but i have a turbo muffler on it for the mean time cause i made my own dual exhaust and i think it sounds nice
Okay...so now I'm looking at just getting a Borla muffler.
Do I need a offset in/center out style, to replace the stock one?
I'm not changing any other pipe, by the way, just the muffler.
What about a hanger for the muffler?
if u take just a muffler to an exhaust shop they can make a hangar for it, as for just getting the muffler install, u wont be getting as much of a performance gain as your would with the full cat-back exhaust. you'd be better off paying the little bit extra and getting it done right
Yeah I know a cat-back is the way to go (performance wise), but I'm not gonna blow $300 on the RK Sport or $600 on a Borla. It'll be louder than what I'm looking for anyways with the bigger piping.
I think I'm just gonna spend $110 for a Borla muffler & a polished tip and get that installed. I just want it a little bit louder.
I guess I'm just going for sound...not performance. The car is never gonna be fast....unless I turbo or supercharge it....and that ain't happening.
Is a Offset IN/Center OUT the type of muffler I need though?? Just wanted to make sure.
you dont need to spend $300 bucks on a pre-fab exhaust. just find a local exhaust place in your area to make you one
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
would you be interested in selling your stock muffler???
ive got an aftermarket, but and want to switch back to stock... and i really like the 03's.
i'll trade ya if you want!!! my muffler isnt a name brand, but its got a nice sound to it!! the only pics i have are not close ups....
got any pics of yours... so i know its the one im after??
