i lost my first one in vegas in august, after about a month and a half. i highly recommend getting insurance if you dont already have.
I don't see the point in it. It's almost $20 a month to insure it, and I never ever lose or damage my phones. I brought them a G1 that was 4 years old that was flawless. Even the clerk was like, "whoa, that thing looks mint!" I got the case for it as a "just in case" precaution in the event I do drop it, and also because I keep it on my at all times and I use my body in my work (I'm a dock loader and use the sides of my legs to compress boxes).
