Ok. Now that the entire cousin lying controversy is solved and over and we all truely know that I am the legal and rightfull ownser of this Cavalier, anyone wanna give me some ideas on what I can do to her?
Here are two pics I took with my cell phone a little bit ago. The front bumper is inside the car, the head and tail lamps are in the trunk of my 1981 Buick Regal. I told my brother I wanted those lights cuz I planned on having a Cav one day and wouldnt you know, I now have his old one lol. Suggestions?

Lol. The Cobalt beside it is wrecked. The engine is almost sitting in the passenger seat in that Cobalt.

Thats what I have heard alot and I can understand why, but, I like a worker. I like practically rebuilding a car. I already have another 2.2 Ecotec on the way that only has 63,297 original miles on it. Bought that from a friend of mine who got in a wreck involving the rear end and he sold me the engine. Right now I am just looking for rims and tires and alot of WD-40 to make sure the rotors havent seized up, but I will prolly end up having to replace them anyway.

Hmm...Well if there is no rust coming through ill offer up this..
Swap in the good runner, shampoo the interior, engine bay etc etc. Paint and clean up all you can with the suspension and make it all look in really good shape.
Polish the exterior, add bumpers and paint the appropriate colors. Once all thats done then decide if its worth it to carry on or if you can sell it and make enough to buy maybe something a little better.
With some work and a local pick and pull you may be able to make it worth it.

that is my plan. Thank you very much. The carpets willl need a good bit of shampoo. What could I do in terms of the passenger seat. It has some slight water damage as the passenger side window is not all the way up due to no battery and some water was allowed to hit the seat. Luckilly, the wondow is only slightly cracked and the carpet has no evidence of water damage. A through fram and undercarriage inspection will be done upon official delivery from the field. It should be towed sometime within the next month. Why wait that long? Because I am getting it towed for free, but I just gotta wait for my uncle (A rollback driver) to tow it at his time of choice. Thanks again. All together, I estimate around $2,750-$3,000 in spending to get this battered lady lookin fine again.

You could spend a little more and buy a good car. I believe there was a supercharged coupe in the classifieds for like $3500.

The reason most people are saying leave it because they have spent fortunes in there cars and being a dead platform there is no turnaround with them just wasted money. The best way to look at it is if you modify it it will it should be considered a hobby with no profit. If your looking at fixing it up to factory to make yourself a reliable car then ok. The plus to doing that is you learn how to work on them and you know what you have. Besides that there is not much more to it.

Hit the nail right on the head. This is a project to help me learn some of the fundementals to working with J-Platforms as well as the fact that I am saving a family oriented car. Call me stupid, say I have more money than brains and I wont blame you for it lol. But, hey, I see alot of potential behind the cob webs and damage. I call her a diamond in the rough. Whether or not the car will pay for itself when the autocrosses begin, is not known, but we will surely find out. Thanks everyone for your opinions and keeping it constructive and keep them coming.

Evan Undead (The Black Pearl) wrote:I think your estimation of how much it'll cost to fix it up is shooting into the stars. You probably won't even spend half that, or at least you shouldn't.
I hope not, but Im not sure. I dropped $575 for the used 2.2 thats on the way. New rotors, brake shoes, calipers, tires, and rims for all four wheels is looking like a good sized bill. Plus, shampooing, and thoroughly cleansing the carpeting shouldnt be too bad. Degreasing everything is something else I have to do.
