Yesterday I spent about 3 hours cleaning up the wife's car, the Mazda. From now on to be known as Gizmo, since she named it finally.
And today I spent about 5 hours cleaning and clay baring the cavi. The cavi was is rough shape after this winter. The paint has about 3 chips in it all around the rocker panels. And the spoiler was hit at some point by a small tree branch or something because the paint is cracked on it. The front bumper is chipped to hell, and so the hood. After 3 straight hours of clay baring the paint shine just came right back. It had tar and all kinds of crap in the paint. There's these little rust colored spots all over it, even on the plastic pieces, and I didn't know how those were gonna come off, but the clay bar did a fantastic job clearing up almsot all of them. If my arms weren't ready to fall off I probably could have sat there for another hour and got them all off. She's definitely not perfect, but for an 03 with 100k, she sure looks pretty freeking good. The carpet needs a good shampoo, and the dash is cracked like every other cavi, but other than that, the interior is beautiful and mint. Also finally painted the calipers and drums.
Also, I've included the much anticipated interior shots of the Mazda.
Enjoy. Questions Comments welcome as always. Just be nice.
And an engine shot of the Mazda cause it's just so darn cute.
Haha, thanks. You have like the same exact car don't you? This color is pretty common for sure.
How cute this little engine is!!! lol
It's so tiny man! I swear if I took it out I could just carry under my arm. Aluminum block and head, about the size of a cavalier radiator.... Carry it like a basketball!
lol I drove one the other day, quite comfortable, i like the intake set up it comes with.
very clean cav, i hate the shift knob though, mine always loosen up on me (that style)
is that why you shift knob is slightly turned? lol
Haha, no actually the shift knob is slightly turned because I glued a threaded nut inside it, and it was just off. So, it's actually threaded and tight, but It just didn't line up quite right.
Good news is I got the knob on eBay for $6. Just experimenting on what style of knob I like the best. So far this is the winner. Just need to find a threaded heavy weight knob is this style in just the right color. I'm contemplating filling in that stupid shift pattern with something (what should I use?) and then painting is matt black like I want.
The best shifters imo are weighted, the B&M bootleg shifter from autozone works great, but it has a brushed aluminum design which burns lol
^^ No they are not. They are Grand am coupe seats.
were they "plug and play"?
Sorta. You have to unbolt the sliders from the j's seats, and unbolt the sliders from the grand am seats and swap the sliders. You will need 8 grade 8 bolts told bolt the sliders to the grand am seats. You have to remove the bottom reinforcement piece on the driver side slider and bend the bar underneith, but having said that, it really wasn't that hard. They do sit a bit higher, but my driver side slider was cut 1" shorter so I don't have that problem.
For the most part it's "plug and play" but it does take some convincing and a little modification.
And if you search in the interior forum, I've personally answer that question probably 10+ times. I've explained how it works and stuf in a few posts too. I stil have yet to make a how too though. Just don't have the time.
hmmm, I may be trying this, those look comfortable!
whats with mazda and their extreme smiley face front ends latley.
