last year i put a 70k '00 bottom end in with a mildly ported 96-98 head. didnt really touch the bottom end, just threw a new oil pump on and sealed it up. in october i took my car to the track and spun 2 rod bearings. fun stuff. had to baby it back home, knocking like carzy and parked it. tore it all apart and decided the 2.4 oil pump was no longer sufficient. just recently got it all put back together and running again so i figured i'd share a bit.
this is what the oil pump screen looked like when i got the pan off.
i decided to go with a better oil pump
and a new pan to go with it.
Clevite 77 -.25mm under sized bearings
-.25mm refurbished crank with a 2.3 oil pump drive gear pressed on
Clevite 77 -.25mm under sized rod bearings, 2 new rods from GM and all new Sealed Power rings
just to be clear, all the bearings are dry in the pictures, but i did use clevite engine assembly lube generously on all the bearings.
all back together
and back in
the rest of the motor is the same as last year and its all in my reg. i've only had it on the road for a week so its only got like 200 miles on it thus far, but i've seated the rings and changed the oil already. even took my car to Sandy Hook NJ for a meet yesterday with a couple friends and a whole crapload of celicas. took some pics of that so why not.
my car (dont mind the coolant puddle)
my buddy's VR-4 Galant
and my other buddy's Sentra SE-R with a T-25 strapped to it
and a whole crapload of celicas.
i wish i wouldve taken more pics of the other cars there, it was a pretty nice turn out and i had a great time. just driving my car again was a blast. it still needs a few things, but im glad i have it back.
Wow man engine work is impressive! How she running with the new undersized rod bearings?
Very nice. I am digging your buddies Sentra. Does it have some balls? Im going to assume yes.

ty! doesn't really run any different with the cut crank and under sized bearings. really the only difference between this setup and what i had last year is the balance shaft delete with the 2.3 oil pump. that just gave a bit more vibes at idle. other than that its been running great!

its got balls. on the way back up the parkway i watched him wreck a brand new 370z. its a fairly impressive car for the money he put into it. and its light as hell to boot. love that car.
ohhhhh... someone who did the 2.3 oil pump swap ONLY. i LOVE it!
how much faster does it rev up? notice any difference?
more power?

i havent really been too mean to it yet, i've been trying to be nice but from what i can tell it does feel a little peppier. i def do notice engine vibes more, but that doesn't bother me.
Once you get on it you will notice the difference in revving. Engine looks good. What else do you have planned for your JZtwofour?
Seeing that Sentra SE-R makes me want to boost my GTZ. Im still unsure though cause I know the LG0 has power all motor as is.
GMR has got nothing on this
next for this car is tires. my Hankooks are on their way out. last year before i killed it i bought a set of 17x7 Drag DR-17's and they've been sitting in the garage waiting for some Azenis. then if everything goes well Wilwood front BBK this summer. then next year i have to try and keep up with that damn B13.
