starting to make some changes
Friday, April 08, 2011 5:52 PM
been doing a constant renovation on my 95 4 dr sunfire since i got the poor thing a couple years ago

this car (although it looks like a sad pos) is my baby, got it for 296 and some change from a guy that didnt know what was wrong with her
some cussing and a few junkyard trips later, she roared to life, kinda
looked terrible sounded terrible but she ran.

been doing some constant upkeep and additions ever since
this is how she looks now. minus the rims. sold them

more recently ive been doing some larger changes and plans for a future creation
completed door panel

decided on a blue silver black color theme have plans for painting the car. body work currently in progress

also right now the engine is out and on a stand (its being partially rebuilt and put in my fiance's 97 cavy that i bought for 350 with a nocking engine)
either want to do a 3800 swap with a manual jetrag f23 tranny or a manual ecotec swap. would love to have either engine, which one i do depends on what parts car i come across first.

future additions
02 sunfire gt front bumper
rear bumper needs replaced not sure with what tho
replace side skirts
fab a front and rear lip for the bumpers
paint (of coarse)
custom projectors
03+ cavy taillights (painted)
finish interior sanding and painting (redo that door panel, have some bleed through on the blue)
leather camaro seats in front AND BACK
molded evil eyes
n body irs swap with disc breaks
nwf fron break swap

maybe some more stuff, just havent decided yet

some progress will be slow due to a lack of funding, and some lack of time
but if i get some interest ill try to keep it updated as best i can

Not bad to start with but just some opinions from me if you dont mind.

1. Loose the stick on hood vents, there not even anyways, and they look god awful ugly. Remember there are just my opinions so dont get mad.
2. Way to many colors going on in the interior. Pick a dual pant scheme. I see 4 colors in that pic. I would really wait to do the interior until the exterior is painted the colors you want. And loose that checker pattern. I give you props tho for doing the re-wrap of those parts tho, looks good. I know those are your plans for the interior, but I would work on it, the texture is still there, and deff does not have enough clear on there, and that silver will rub off from people sitting there. Hold off on the interior and concentrate on the exterior 1st. Just IMO.
3. Im no body guy but I hope you cut that panel out and reweld a new on in there, dont become a bondo buddy and have your car chunk off on you one day.
4. I hope your going to paint it right with a actual gun and not spray bomb it, it may come out nice for the first month or so, but then it looks like crap, trust me, I have been there.
5. Lower it.
6. Better rims
7. Have fun!!

But seriously, nice canvas. I hope it turns out good for you. And please, dont get mad at me, im just stating my opinions.

the ventsare actually not stick on, they're fender vents from an old z28. they were a poorly executed bad idea. the hood is being replaced because those vents were cut and bolted in, and yes ther're not straight, i did one and my buddy did the other, as soon as it was in i looked at it and almost cried.

as far as the interior, havent really done much. had some time on my hands and thats what i came up with. what i have done so far is gonna be redone in blue and black and the wrapping will be redone also, blue and black is the planned color for the outside. (btw the car will be jambed so there isnt all that red inside) also there isnt any clear on that door panel. like i said i had some time, that was never meant to be perminent, just to piddle around and decide if thats the way i wanted it.

no it will be cut and replaced, looking to buy a mig/flux welder soon so i can do that, i had boindo'd it befor when i first got the car as a way of hiding it till i could get to do something better.

it will either be put in a shop or im gonna buy myself a nicer hvlp gun, i have one but its cheap.
Mike Z A.K.A. SNEEZY wrote:5. Lower it.

plan on it

its actually a photoshopped image of one idea i had for the paint scheme that i likes
the car in my sig doesn't exist..... yet

Re: starting to make some changes
Saturday, April 09, 2011 12:32 PM
if your sig is what you're planning on doing with the exterior then i like. and if you plan on redoing the interior then i would keep the exact same scheme as the exterior. You don't want to go overboard with the interior colors and styling. My advice is keep it clean and somewhat simple, not too flashy

When it comes to it though its your car and your ideas. keep coming with the updates. im curious to see what you end up doing with her

Glad I'm not the one looking at it every day.. the door panels are too busy.

Sig is also too large.

See, I like someone who can take the opinions of others in stride. I am glad you were able to see I wasnt knocking your car, but giving my opinion. Its a nice canvas. You have alot of work on ur hands, and it will get there. Goodluck, and im interested on seeing this the way you hope, I love that new idea for the paint.

i dont look at it everyday either. it doesnt have a motor at the moment. so it doesnt move exept under power of giant hampster wheels

its motor is out and being worked on, like so

it'll look great in her black 2 dr cav.

will resize sig when i have a good chance

like maybe now.

Re: starting to make some changes

ok now that ive fixed my sig....
ive got some goodies to post

got my gt bumper, have been sanding it, all the little holes and ridges are hard to sand well

05 dash pad, painted (no clear on it) not sure if i want to keep the silver on it or not

and i know someone is gonna ask about the green thing in the middle, but i wont tell what it is.

now on to some upsetting things

found some more rust on the driver side, it isnt as bad as the pas side but its still gonna need replaced

rear bumper supports is rusted but good, gonna replace

closer look at some of the bad stuff on the back

next items on my agenda to get ahold of
z3 fenders prolly from ebay
new hood (junkyard 35 bucks)
time machine to add hours to my day
finish the engine install on the cav
paint for the womans car
(not allowed to work on the fire until hers is done or she'll nag me to death lolz)

Re: starting to make some changes
Monday, April 11, 2011 1:55 PM
lmao at the time machine. If you moved some colors around on the door panel, it could look really good. I really like that fabric. I want to hate it, but its so different that I like it...and it really reminds of regular nintendo for some reason. The photoshop looks great as well. My only criticism was bondoing the rear quarters only to go back over them again. That seems like a waste of time, but if you don't mind doing it, go for it.

Re: starting to make some changes

Soooooo

Whats the green thing

Re: starting to make some changes
Monday, April 11, 2011 2:56 PM
honestly when I first got this car I didn't know $%!? About body work. So some of the bondo was a learning experience. I wanted to eventually weld it but didn't have access to a welder
at the time I wanted to gault the cancer so I sanded it bondo'd it and painted.

now that I'm finally getting a chance to do what I've been wanting to with the car( due to my new garage) I'm going back over and correcting some of the mistakes I've made with this car.
such as fixing the interior, removing the vents, replacing the trunk lid, and of coarse fixing the rust

as soon as I can get her cavy up and at leaste driving I'll be able to spend alot more time and some extra cash on my project

on a less meaningful not. I've not come up with a name for my car... Any suggestions?

the "green thing" is up for debate. Lolz

I'll give you a hint... It's green
and fluffy

Re: starting to make some changes

woah, whats with the fabric design on the interior doors?

Re: starting to make some changes
Monday, April 11, 2011 6:21 PM
the fabric was on sale at walmart where I used to work. Got the full pelt for 5 bucks so I'm not complaining
but I kinda like the fabric. Not sure if I'm gonna keep it tho.

Keep it!!!

it really depends on how the fabric looks after I've got the interior the way I want it. I think the interior is going to blue and black. We'll see

Looks like you have a lot of work on your plate. But I have to respect someone doing the work themselves.

Re: starting to make some changes
Tuesday, April 12, 2011 5:17 PM
so i now have a question to pose to everyone...
im wanting to put either a 3800 or an ecotec into my fire
BUT i have at my disposal a 99 3400 with 98k miles on it.

has anyone done this swap and is it really worth it?
i wouldnt mind putting a manual on it and slapping it in

i would assume that it would be a fairly straight forward swap since it has a similar front engine mount to the 2.2

it already has 8.5mm super conductor wires and good strong plugs in it

any sugestions?
any ideas?
is it all that good of a motor?
is there a lot of aftermarket for it?
