I have always, for some unexplainable reason, liked Z24 Cavaliers.
My dad and I were going to look at another Cavalier we ended up buying for my mom, and we saw this one at an apartment complex. He wanted $2000, beat him down to $1750.
It needs a bit of work, but I really enjoy it. Its not off road-able like my Blazer was.. but its a hell of a lot better on gas. It handles better than I figured, and its quicker than I expected. I don't understand why people hate these things so much.. I was gunna buy a Toyota Echo....
And this is my first J with a 2.4. It actually surprised me. I'm used to the Tu-tus.. I've had enough of 'em.
My only gripe is the previous owner didn't have the '00 Z24 aluminum 5 spokes... I
really like them.. But I think I'm going to pick up some aftermarket wheels if I can find some I like.
It also had a uni-brow on it.. I tossed that jazz.. ugh.
And if your wondering, the previous owner's daughter owned this car... enough said.
I'm not going to do a whole lot to it.. I've found some tail lights I wanna get for it.. I want a front and rear skirt for it, three gauge pillar pod.. I can't stand not having oil pressure gauges and stuff...I'm going to bake my lights and paint em. Might take the amber reflector out of the turn signal and replace it with a clear one. Wheels eventually..
I'd really like to bag it, simple basic setup because lowering springs aren't at all practical here with the way the roads are... but I'm going to be driving this in winter... I want to be sure the valves won't freeze when its -20 to -40*C outside. I know I'll need to add airline antifreeze but still..
I definitely need to do some lighting upgrade on this thing. Although the headlights need to be aimed badly.
The transmission maaay need to be rebuilt.
I'm kinda considering boosting it too... but I may not.. Might just do a couple things to it.
I need to find an exhaust I like. I dont want it to sound like a Honda.
Here's some photos.
Day I got it..
And I took it up to the firehall down the street to take some pictures..
and did a quick wash and armorall'd the dash and stuff..
I'm having a blast with this thing. Glad I never bought that Echo. The bit of body damage aside, its not a bad car for the money.
Looks nice man, keep her clean. Can't wait to see progress. Kinda rare seeing red 00+ Z24's on here anymore.
~2014 New Z under the knife, same heart different body~

Don't worry. It's staying red. Paint jobs here are too expensive, ($8000 a couple years ago was an estimated to sand and shoot my old Sunfire, same factory color, no jams or anything.. I wanted to change it to black. Not after that) and the color doesn't bother me.
I may try to practice a bit and do my LH quarter myself. It needs some body work. I may do the bodywork myself and bring it to a shop to have it painted.
8,000?!?!? did i read that right with NO jams?
you could buy a nice car for that, @!#$!
anyways, def a good buy for 1750, looks pretty good.
Saab Kit, GM Reflash, 10 psi
Nice...so I'm guessing it is an automatic?
Yes it is an automatic... I might look for a 5 speed..
And yes, the quote was $8000 for just a scuff and shoot of the OEM color.
its a good start

This thing is probably either going to need a cylinder head rebuild, or rings or something.. and probably a trans rebuild too.
Shame, its only got 150K on it (92,000miles).
