Meh, drag cars don't really impress me. Sure, I can appreciate any vehicle, especially with customization to the lengths that is entailed in a car like the one above... but the other one is more impressive. Real every day bodied cars with 1 off customization done by your every day enthusiast, is what makes the impression, in my eyes.

i can definitely notice more 1 off customization in the drag vs drive. but i also factor into the purpose of the car. but you are right, having a 500 cubic inch engine in a carbon fiber body, running low 6's against other cars going 6's and 7's with thousandths of a second to spare vs the other guy is not impressive at all. especially when your win all depends on who cut the better light at the tree. i just enjoy thinking outside the box is all.

That is not a RWD cavalier.

It is a dragster with a cavalier shaped engine cover.

Still cool, But I prefer the one with a RWD 2200.

headlights, tail lights, dash, center console, firewall, firewall back frame, carpet, headliner.

The guy was really humble, talked to him for a good hour, very nice guy, he knew it wasnt a cavalier too, but a drag car. and he was very good at it. he even asked a lot about my car and we discussed a lot of things on how to adapt certain things for my car. he was fun to party with too.

That. Is. Awesome.

Very cool that he was a humble guy too.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

I Love the drag car...but I RESPECT the homebuilder doing his own thing with the S-10/Cavy.

One of those cars is actually achievable by most of you here...and one isn't. Follow your dreams!

I figured the simple things were lol. Its BA nonetheless, and cool to see a cav turn into stuff like that.

party part= +1

I have seen tooo many of these, but none like the other, so I like the other.

Heck company's sell the kits to convert a J to RWD for drag racing.

the guy was like, i figured a cavalier shell just because nobody else does. then he asked if mine was there but sadly, it wasnt... very cool guy.

i joked with him on the trunk, im like you couldnt have gotten rid of that stupid light bar across the trunk? i mean come on... its a carbon shell, should have made it the cf bezel. he had no idea what it was and then i showed him a pic and he was like SON OF A BITCH! I could have left that part not painted and it would have been the same thing.

LOL nobody does a cavalier? has he never gone to a national event before? there are TONS of them made into RWD's....

impressive, sure... but i like the 4 banger one that can do corners and drive on the street without anybody even knowing its RWD about 150% better.

This is probably a old Pro Stock race car. There were quite a few 03-05 Cavalier bodied Pro Stock drag cars raced in NHRA series back in 2003-2006. They are now using Cobalt and G5 bodies. Pro Stock rules require using stock appearing bodies.

This is a complete tube chassis frame with a Cavalier body. To run as fast as these cars run, they must have a certified tube chassis frame.

I have friends that own and previously owned tube chassis cars. A 1990 Grand Am, with a supercharged, fuel injected small block making 850 horse on premium. It ran 160 mph at the Martin drag strip one time. He was banned from the track for running too fast for the frame setup. He also had a 89 Trans Am with a 572 GM crate motor, supercharged, running on premium, making 910 horse power.

lets see... what do I post...

1) I'm pretty sure this car could go around corners at the same speed as the OHV RWD conversion.
2) If you can still turn you're not going fast enough.
3) This car CAN turn... after the run to go down the return road.
4) If you think going straight is easy, do it in a RWD car with over 500hp+... the higher the HP, the more you have to steer to go straight.

Probably closer to 1000 horse and 33-34 inches of total tread in the back. Yes, they can be a handful. The tires can break loose going down the track. If the passenger side of the engine lets loose, the force of the drivers side exhaust can push the car into the wall. Or the other way around can push the car over the center line.

As mentioned in this thread, it's not as hard to go RWD as one might htink. Chassis kits and rear ends are commonplace, and RWD trans can be had for most of our engines. Heck, the biggest difference between 'back-halfing' a Camaro and a Cavalier is that one must turn the engine 90 degrees...and if one can do the back-half work, then even that is no big deal. From the firewall back, it's essentially the same job as on a RWD car.

Guys are doing this to Mustangs and Camaros, etc all over the country, all in the comfort of their own garages. If you want it...DO it!

Budget on this car? Whatever amount was spent on it, but that figure next to the word "cavalier" and tell me if you're still impressed
