Well guys I had to paint a car perfectly in order to graduate so I took on the task with my own car. Its a flame red pearl color now and I molded a functional hood scoop. I love doing body work so it was a fun experience. Below are the pics in order to show my work. My camera phone took the pics as I was working in the shop then my digital camera came out to play after the work was done. Lol Personally I think everything came out great. Took a few days but it was worth it! I went with smoked bumper lights, smoked the amber corner lights, smoked LED tail lights and black fender flares to add some style and flow with my 18" black rims. On with the pics....
Sanded down the scoop
Test fitment
Fiberglassed to the car
Primed the scoop after applying body filler
Wet sanded and about to take off all the lights
Masked off the windows and mirror sails
After the 2nd coat
Right after I sprayed the clear coat
Now for an important step-buffing the whole car
The paint looks beautiful!
Got my smoked Supra bumper lights to even out the front
White CCFL rings with 3000k HID fogs
Going with 10,000k HID headlights
Now for the fun pics
Im very proud of what I accomplished and made with my own 2 hands! Now to take some daytime pics in sunlight so the red color will come out brighter and not too dark like in these pics. I will do that tomorrow.
not feelin the hood scoop at all. and the flares should be body color too, esp since theyre an off charcoal color out of the box (and i hope you didnt seriously leave them on the car when you painted...) but over all kudos on doing the work yourself. looks like you did an alright job overall

I thought about painting the flares but Im not sure why I like them the way they are now. Maybe its cause they flow good with the smoked accents but Im happy with them that way. As for the scoop I like it. After all you must build your car to your likings. Thanks for your opinion tabs, I appreciate it!
I'm not feeling the scoop either, but hey, as long as you like that's what counts!!
Good job on the work though, looks like a clean paint job, and I like the color choice. Though, I would also color matched the flares too. Overall, thumbs up!
I have to agree with tabs regarding painting the flares. I think it would make the car flow much better.
Also sorry i am kinda picky, but looks like you didn't tape off your antenna, and muffler... and the blue in the fender well.
Sorry not trying to come off as a %#$!, I'm just picky bout little things lol.
But overall it looks like you did a great job with the paint
nice job man, came out clean. You did jamb it out didnt you?
That car is screaming for a drop. It would look alot better even lowered 1.5". I acually like the way the hood turned out. It looks pretty cool with the scoop and the paint job looks really nice too. Im not a fan of that front bumper either, but you car pulls it off nicely, I think i would look way better with a IF front thou. All that painting on your car and you didint paint your drums? Those stick out like a sore thumb, also looks like you got some overspray on your exhaust. Overall really good job! the paint job looks great and that really what you were after. Way better than i would do =)

I like it as is, I'm feeling the off color flares too, though I'm sure if the wheels weren't similar in color I'd hate them.
I do think if you were to mold the flares in and then paint them body color that would look sick too.
I like the hood scoop also.
Built and painted wiht your own 2 hands always adds bonus points form me, so props!
Wow, nice job man. I hope you painted the jambs, under the trunk, and inher the hood too. Other then that, looks really good. I have been trying to paint too, and even tho Ive gotton a little better here and there, you my friend have done 1000 times better then I ever could! Good job. Im kinda in between the hood scoop, I dont hate it, but im not crazy about it, but hey its your car. I do like the bodykit tho, bc it is diffrent. So overall great job!!! Now, wanna do mine
Im with most of the comments above. Not feeling the scoop, fender flares would look better color matched, and personally Im surprised you painted the trunk with the wing on, as well as left the flares on. Seems like more prep work could have been done...
Otherwise, the quality of the paint job itself looks well done.
So the car was white.....then you painted it blue, & still had white jambs..
Now you painted it red & didn't mask off the fenderwells either.
So you got white door jambs, blue fender wells and a red paint job.
Plus you didn't even remove the spoiler to paint under it?
This is starting to look like a hot mess. Sorry.......
Do it once / the right way, or not at all.

I say you failed. Any good body shop teacher wouldn't have let you go with that attempt.
Once again, sorry, but that's how I feel. It could have been done better...

You did a great job painting. Its difficult to get even, especially working by yourself.
That being said, it looks like you taped off very well on what you actually taped off. I just don't understand why you would put all the work into taping all that, and didn't take the antenna off or throwing something over the exhaust. I also don't understand putting the flares on before painting and taping them off. The scoop also needed more prep. I can see dimples in the picture.
Sorry to bust your balls. I just feel like you did such a good job, but didn't do enough prep for all you chose to do. I like the look of the car and look forward to seeing what you do in the future.

Wow Kevin stop PMSing! I did remove the spoiler and paint the door jambs. Just cause I didnt take pics after every single step doesnt mean you can jump to conclusions. Let me take some pics at least before assumptions are made. Its foolish to automatically assume those things right off the bat without even being sure or having proof. You quoted me on the important part where I said "paint a car perfectly" and thats exactly what it is-professionally done. Hot mess? Lol Sorry but not here Kevin. See I didnt fail, you're just talking out of your ass for no reason and I will prove it to you. Besides, Id like to see what you can do. Thanks to everybody else that has posted with comments that make sense!

I'm sorry, but this pic proves you didn't remove the spoiler or fender flares....
Don't get me wrong, I think it looks really good, but you can't say that you took off the spoiler painted, put it back on and then cleared the car... that just makes no sense to me...

twiztidhybrid, I appreciate your comment. I already planned to be switching to a shorty antenna and I can simply remove the exhaust paint. Simply over looked the exhaust and thats my fault which I do admit but it can be fixed easily.
You didnt bust my balls, you just stated a simple fact which I accept cause I know its true.

It was simply set on the car to be painted cause the stand we have was being used by somebody prepping another part. Keep in mind there is 18 of us all doing different types of work so we must do with what we can. I admit I didnt remove the flares but hey it shows how good I can mask off a car! Lol
no buddy you didnt remove the wing theres proof in the pics right there from base to clear, also bumpers should of been sprayed off the car along with mirrors. Other than that paint looks nice..get some thinner for that exhaust pipe and if you got some red in ur wheel wells, spray some undercoating in there.
This is my Signature sweet huh?
well hard to really judge the quality of the paintjob thru pics, esp at this quality. its a great skill to learn and with practice you will get better. as far as the build. its good you built it how you want it because thats how you should built. but my issues are the hood scoop looks way to small for the car. doesn't flow well. the fender flares make it look like you just stuck them on the car and were too cheap to paint them to match. they also ruin the flow. and then the rest of what was said about your prepping. painting with flares and bumpers on. wing on not properly protecting the car when you painted etc. are all learning curves that hopefully next time you will be able to do a better job on. other then those mistakes it looks like you did better then several other people on here who have painted up first time paint pics.

Love the color, but the hoodscoop doesn't flow and would have been better left out, and the quality is definitely questionable prep-wise. I grin at the thought of ripping a flare off and there being blue paint underneath.
Also doubt the jams, etc. were done but hey this is the j-body community here.
The paint appears to look really good. I don't like the scoop myself and from the 3rd an 4th pics from the bottom it looks like you can see waves from where it was molded. It also looks like you painted right over a door ding on your passenger panel.
It looks like you did what most people do, you rushed the job to get it done and skipped some quality steps. your prep work has a long way to go as everyone mentioned you should have taken some proper steps and finished right. You can even see that you painted your exhaust tips. It appears you have some good skill with paint. My advice would be do it once more and finish it the right way and you would have something real nice to show for it. Keep up the work just don't slouch on the quality.
Overall I say good job. I'm inclined to agree with everyone about the flairs and spoiler. But like you said its your car. As for the scoop I would loce it if it were like twice the size it is now.
holy batman, come pint my car :]
Killed that paintjob bro love the color good work.
