my 02 z24 had a crack in piston number 3 .. but not like that haha.. more like a chip. sounded like ass though
this was due to detonation, meth pretty much, not being tuned for it is my guess... ive seen it happen on here and ecotecforum also... ive already got a new engine in and running

To not add to the already massive amount of mis-information on this website I will add a few things.
I do believe Jean was experimenting with running it with Meth and without Meth the day it blew.
I should also add that STOCK heat range plugs where unfortunately installed at the time as well.
I believe that to be the main issue resulting in it finally blowing, cylinder temps where getting way to high and it detonated. Check engine light was flashing during some 1/4 mile passes.
Lots of people on this site running 3" pulley with the stock GM tune and no meth just fine.
All in all, sucks it blew, glad you got it back together...now you have a spare bottom end to build if you want to.
Meth helps fight detonation and kr, also helps richen the afr. Tuned for it is the best way but still its more safe than hurting anything.
Stock heat range plugs+ flashing cel, did you check your plugs to see if any got smashed? Hoping you had a wideband??
Ya motor was misfiring after a run, pulled the plugs and one was crushed....knew right away it was the ring land.
This happened last fall, Jean already has a new motor in the car and running now. Just hadn't pulled apart the motor till now.

i guess it happen for the good, i have a new motor with ~60kms and blower cams and springs now, getting the car tuned next week and should be good to go for some low 13 sec passes
