As of late I have been away from the org. This is because of a few different reasons and here are pictures of all my cars’ travels.
To start, this year was my senior year at Milwaukee School of Engineering where as a senior design project myself and a few others designed and built an open wheel racecar for the SAE Formula Hybrid event. As a part of the team I designed, simulated, built, and tested the vehicles suspension system. This years’ car was built from the ground up starting in late December and competing in early May.
My first road trip this year was within a week of taking my car out of storage in mid April and took me to the lovely Detroit motor city to present and display our Formula Hybrid car at the SAE World Congress.
My second road trip this year started the 1st of May which took my out to Loudon New Hampshire to the New Hampshire motor speedway. Here is where our Formula Hybrid vehicle competed against around 30 other engineering schools. On this week long trek I put over 3000 miles on the cav which is around 3 times what the car saw in the whole year last year.
My third and most recent road trip started last Monday and took my 3700 miles to parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and of course Wisconsin. Two other friends and I took a week long camping trip with my car to these western states. On this trip the cav proved to be durable enough to handle the western mountains, Yellowstone Park, snow, rain, sleet, hail, some pretty rough dirt roads, and Pikes Peak.

At the end of all of this I have to say I have been quite happy with the reliability and durability of my car this year. I have really tested the limits of my car and it has handled everything like a champ. I couldn’t think of doing anything this extensive or excessive in a coupe, hence why I love owning my sedan. So with this I challenge you all to get out and drive your car.

i like it! and it seems like you had a good time on your trip/trips!
definitely need to find some sides and a rear to go with that front lip though!
anymore info on the hybrid car?

Well, here is the quick overview of it. it has an unequal length double wishbone suspension using a pull-rod setup in the front and push-rod in the rear, and also uses solid 1144 stressproof steel anti-roll bars to combat body roll. The drive system is a series hybrid (think chevy volt) that uses 8 optima yellow top batteries 4 per bank that run at 48 volts and 400 amps. The batteries are charged using a gas generator. Each bank uses its own motor controller which control 2 e-tek electric motors which are coupled together using a shaft which also has a cvt mounted on it. The cvt is out of a polaris diesel atv that uses 4-120 gram weights instead of the traditional 3 so engagement occurs sooner. While testing in the shop wheels speeds of over 60mph were achieved. Since funding was minimal and the majority of the car was built and funded by team members newer/lighter battery technology was out of the picture. This meant the car had around 400 lbs of batteries alone, but next years team will only have to redo the electrical systems and shave weight since this years team designed and built the entire vehicle this year. Hope this is sufficient for more info.

That thing is pretty nifty, looks like you had a few nice drives there.

I think bigfoot is blurry,
that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra
scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster, roaming the countryside.
