a nice little engine build
Wednesday, April 07, 2010 10:22 AM
this is what i've been up to besides workin and drinkin beer

my next buy is 35mm lifters so i can get my cam towers bored. every lifter will have its own place. the lifter to bore clearence will be perfect on every one. some how a guy i know is going to school to be a machinst. he did the ps insert on the HO cam for me and also did a .375 lift intake cam.

since i still want to daily drive my car im just putting GM flat top pistons, maybe standard size but when i get the block to the engine shop after i drill the oil passage for the 2.3 oil pump we'll see if i need oversized. if i can deck the head i will.

also im rebuilding the transmission thats in the car when i pull the motor to put the one im building in.

and questions or comments, feel free

Those look sweet! Polished? or are they painted with that chrome spray paint?

onecleancavy- the towers are powder coated chrome. the idi cover is powder coated matte black and polished.

z yaaaa- thanks again for that block. it has made doing the 2.3 oil pump swap a little easier.

update

the powder coated towers are screwed. the guy boring them fuked up. i got him another 2.4 intake tower to NOT @!#$ up. i'll use a 2.3 exhaust tower.

i got the oil passage holes drilled for the 2.3 oil pump. need to find my tap. then need to plug some holes.

i bought some enkei 17 x 7.5 rims on 225/45 from a guy i work with. they need repowder coated. and i got a gm strut bar from the junk yard. the handling has improved a lot!

i have to much @!#$ going on at once

honestly, i'm an OHV guy through and through. i will never own a car where the cam is above the cylinder deck, but so far, this is beautiful.

yep. he was trying to fix his mess up by pressing more aluminum in the bore and was going to weld it in. when he pressed that piece in, it moved the metal on another bore. i am pissed about it. he was like just let me fix what i did. i said no, i wouldnt use it in anyone's motor. so i got another tower and told him to do it right. now im playing the waiting game with him.

I would still call you a moron that makes no sense. Just another person with the whole "well I would never own this or that.." With no reason. over head cam motors have been reliable, moddable, powerful... I don't understand. You have NO basis for saying "I will never own a car where the cam is above the cylinder deck".... That's why you make no sense. Because you are just spouting at the mouth with absolutely no ligit reason.

^^^ i haven't forgot. if he dont do it right i'll send you a tower.

a lil update i guess. the block i got from the junky yard is good. all the cyclinder walls are in great shape, just need honed but i do want them oversized if the price is right.

and my 37/64 drill bit, 3/8 npt tap, 3/8 npt plugs and a 1/8 npt plug will be in my mail box sometime this week. then its off to the machine shop.

i'll have some pics to post soon.

well the drilling and tapping is done! didn't break through the casting!! the swap looks easier in pics then it really is...@!#$! its not the greatest but it should work and i did it. the rear main seal plate does clear the plug. when i get it bored and honed i'll have them weld around that plug.
