I've got lots of things planned for this year. Picked up some brand new KYB AGX's from Brandon Boltz for cheap for Christmas. Once the tax return comes back I'll be ordering the Pro Kit and possibly OEM's adjustable camber front mounts. Not sure if I'm going to use his solid rear mounts or not.
Also picked up an Altima Red Top about a month ago after my battery died
And finally about a week ago I came across a set of W41 cams on ebay, for a price I just couldn't let go by. Package arrived today, I'm pumped
They could use a polish, but they are in great shape, and I'm ready to get to work. Just need to order a hex insert, and a CPS pad from Brad's machinist.
Now to find a 2.3 HO valve train...

VERY nice update! i have always been a fan of this car and the way you do things with it. keep up the good work, buddy!
as for the cams... they certainly look like w41's to me. i can tell by looking at the lobes... they arent as sharp as the HO's are. but then again.. they could also be LO's
but i doubt it. (have you measured them yet?)
and i forgot to tell you, my machinist wont sell just the CPS. he said not only did he think it wasn't worth selling but that it would mean him losing business because of it. so he said no, sorry
just curious but why would you get OEM camber plates but not the rear mounts as well? the rears are the ones that need replacement the MOST due to their @!#$ty design.
Thanks Brad. I'm going to go down to the machine shop here on campus today to make sure they really are the W41 cams before I tell the guy I have them and I'm happy. They looks like the W41's from the pictures I've seen, but just like you I want to be sure.
Sucks about the pad, can you get me the dimensions of it? I just have a hard time sending cams out to another machinist when I my father is a tool and die maker.
Well I really want the front mounts for their adjustability, and because they just look freaking awesome. I'm just not really sold on the rear mounts quite yet. I figured I'd get some crap for not using them, but I can replace the rear mounts 3 times for the price of those rear mounts. In the end I'll probably break down and buy them, just seemed like a safe place to save a bit of money so I can get the cams in faster. Really depends if I can find a good deal on the Pro-kit or not.

Looks great, now take the stock airbox bracket off your intake cam tower

Haha, I keep meaning to pull that thing off, those two bolts will be replaced with bolts that don't have the threads on top when I swap heads.

Larger lift and duration cams give the air and exhaust fumes more time to flow in and out of the cylinder, that coupled with some head work and you can get a substantial increase in power, for pennies compared to supercharging. I only paid $100 for these, I got really lucky, haha.
Plan right now is to pick up another 2.4 head and valve train from the junkyard, and have the head ported and polished. Meanwhile I can machine the cams and cam towers for fitment. This way I can get everything ready to go and do the swap in a weekend.
I'm using brown top injectors, and it will be tuned with HP tuners. The only hurtle I have left is finding a 2.3 HO or W41 valve train. I want to use the stronger springs so I can up my red line a bit, and I need the shorter lifters. Finding one used would save me quite a bit of money compared to buying everything new. Then I just need to replace the valve seals, all the gaskets and pick up some over sized valves and I'm ready to go.

So if I don't run it, will it throw a code? How much of a fit will the ECU throw?
I have to pass NYS inspection, CEL = instant fail.

If you are getting tuned with HPT you can resolve everything. The car will run fine without it. There is a total of 3 files for fueling. 2 low RPM tables, one for CPS, and one without (more or less). Then a High RPM table. Once above 3800 in PE (Power Enrichment) the CPS is not used.
FU Tuning
Gotcha. So I wont have any idle problems? Other than cold starts being a bit rough because of the bigger cams.

I helped my buddy install HO cams in his 2.4 and untuned it idled pretty lumpy....with the W41 I'd imagine it would be even worse.
Even after he added some timing to the idle and bumped the RPM it was still quite noticeable.
I don't mind if it has a bit of lope, in fact I hope it will. I just don't want to sacrifice how well the engine runs just so I don't have to do a bit more machining on the cams. Not having the sensor on the front of the cover there will clean things up also. I'll have to talk to Jimmy to make sure can deal with the CPS delete.

if you look up the GM part number for HO valve springs you will notice that the part number is for all models of the quad 4.
Yes but the LD9 springs are different correct? LD9 are 40lb springs and the HO are 80lb I believe.

It's Optima not Altima :p
Lol, don't know what I was thinking there...

yep. that is correct. but it doesnt really hurt anything because they are all around 80psi. some will test a tad higher, maybe 83-84 but that goes with all valve springs. all my new gm ones i bought recently were right around 80. i think the most i had was 82psi.
thought i'd add the 95 quad 4 has the same springs as the LD9
Looks good, hope to see more progress soon.

Thanks JRC.
I've been meaning to say, I measured the lobes yesterday and they came out to be about a .406 lift, 4 thousandths isn't going to make much of a difference so I'm not worried. Just glad to know they are the actual W41 cams.

One step closer to the cams
Parts FTW
Brand new Accel Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, turns out it's the same FPR that goes on a 92-96 Corvette, I like Corvette parts
And a Russel liquid filled 0-100psi mechanical fuel pressure gauge to be taped and mounted right into the fuel rail.
Also picked up some new KYB 00-05 strut mounts, now I just need the Pro-kit.

Cams look in great condition. Let me know if you need any help building a hybrid.
GMR has got nothing on this
yayy for progress!
how much did the mounts run you? im needing new ones..
