87 Z... (it is for sale)
Saturday, January 16, 2010 4:39 PM
Well even though I would like to sell this because I lost interest in it shortly after I bought it... I went and took some photo's of it today.

First off , let me say I've got VERY LITTLE in this car. More time than money.

Yes I am up to date on my shots so the rust doesn't bother me.

I bought it with it stalling once it went into gear. After letting it idle for about 5 minutes or so, and noticing a burning smell from under the car, I realized that the main problem was a clogged cat. SO I cut that bish off. and have a temporary very leaky straight pipe replacement.

Although the driver side door is shot, as is its driver side fender, and both rear 1/4"s, the floor is solid, trunk floor is solid, and the strut towers are solid.

These are the newest shots:

These are the next day shots, after cleaning out the interior and such:

And if anyone is interested, Open Ohio title in hand, Live in Northern Ky. $400 take it how it sits. (older but well working pioneer cd player added today)

I just wish it was not so rusty....I suck at body work.

Rust, it builds character! most of what it needs is bolt on, minus the rear 1/4"s.

While true, finding those doors ans 1/4s are going to be tough.....

doors will fit up to 94 i think. But I thought about if I keep it, just buying a door not fully rusted and having the skins transplanted.

I know that the 91+ verts got the seat belts on the door instead of the rear pannel. So a 91+ could probably be modified to work.

Why? It runs and it drives, plus it was cheap. All the things that need to be solid are solid.

Getting rid of it already
What did you do with the headlights/foglights? Yellow film or metalcast?
and this pic is amazing.

Its just a stock Z... or maybe RS with a Z aero kit.(guessing that's more how it is, since I've not seen Z24 Convertible listed for this gen) Think its an orginal factory option too since it does have the lip spoiler. Unless all was added somewhere in the years.

As for the headlights, I am sure I'll get crap for my method but it's paint. Testors hobby paint. Color is called "turn signal amber". Its left over from when I did a couple set of side markers for my xB. I did a test on the headlight i replaced, and liked that it coated well, so cleaned the lens on the high beams, and hand painted them. (you have too with what I used). I used a trim pad for when you paint near molding on your interior walls (the same material as an edger) of your home. Applies it nice and even. Then it self levels as it drys. I've ran this same paint on my xB. Done two sets (sold my original set which are still holding strong) and did a second set which I currently use. No issues. Not even cleared. Up close (and I mean REAL close) you can see a little bit of the stroke marks, but for free, and for a beater. I really don't care.

As for the pic you guys like, that's an HDR (ragtop that comment is for any non-photographers) . Shot at 200/300/500 and Fstop of 11. Should of used a little lower of an Fstop for the sky, Looked good on the screen in .raw but didn't think about how it'd look with tone mapping. Kinda shows the hard life of the car. Notice that there aren't even tags on it yet. lol. I haven't even registered the car. I like the car, but its not really what I want.

Was kinda hoping to re-find my love for the older cavaliers, and my taste has just changed. I love older boxy cars of the 80's, but this just isn't doing it for me. If I were to put about 200-300 into it, it could probably be a great daily driver. But I just don't have the interest.

is it because you're like me, and follow the "hoodride" mentality? Driving something others would just scrap (as proven in one response above. lol)

That car makes me think of an old battle cruiser moored in a ship graveyard but given another chance to roam around . That would be the coolest car to drive around in .

Do you have any pictures of the rockers and under body, and of the engine etc. Maybe a video? I'm ten or so hours away so if I were to even consider i'd I would need at least that . If I were closer I'd have bought it already.

Well I have a guy driving from Columbus Ohio (who is bringing cash and trailer) who plans on going home with it today. So as long as everything goes well, the last pic i will post, is it on the way to it's new home... And then hopefully, I'll be leaving from there, and picking up a new daily driver.

If you had been closer, I would have jumped on it. There was just something about its rawness that I loved about it.

Pretty much how I felt. It sounded pretty raw too. lol. Nothing like a ICM going out + v6 + catless straight pipe on a 22 year old car. hahaha. I think my neighbors are glad its gone. But I got the last laugh buy letting them drive it onto the trailer at about 1am in the morning on a Tuesday. hahaha.
