One new small project, what the heck
Thursday, January 01, 2009 10:10 AM
Just decided to take pics of my non abs Master cylinder install. No real reason to do this swap for me other than to clean up the bay some and to get rid of the Ginormous 95-99 abs master cylinder. Cleaned up very well. I know my brake lines look hand bent, thats because they are Not really focusing on the show aspect of things next season, all about the race track from now on.

The only issue ive had with this swap is that my Ebrake light is stuck on, anybody know why?

What ya think?

looks good! and want to do the same too. how long did it take you to do the swap?

Thanks guys.

Darren I wanted to chop up my bracket too but as you can see its kinda hidden by my intake, no biggie to me now I guess.

Phewes, the whole swap took about an hour and a half because I had to hand bend all the brake lines and make sure I got the right lines to the right ports. Thats not including me bleeding the brakes either. Which that I still have to finish doing. Damn cold lol

hell yes, man. that looks so much better. the lines dont look bad either, you did a good job.

-you say the ebrake light is on... shouldn't the ABS light be on as well considering you deleted the system completely? or did you do away with it via HPT?

Are you scared of the changes coming? The answer is on the inside.

Thanks Brad, yea I knew the abs light would be on, no biggie there. Just didnt know the Ebrake light would stay on after the swap. Once I get the car to the shop Ill have them do away with the abs light, and maybe the ebrake light as well if HPT allows it.

Looks good David.

I am thinking about doing the same thing but upgrade to a larger master cylinder as well. Just planning at this point as I am saving for a motor rebuild

Brake light comes on when the ABS isn't working properly

There is something wrong with the ABS in my 98Z and when the ABS light came on, the Brake light also came on

Also, if the master is low on fluid, the e brake light will come on, you could also have a bad level sensor.

it does have to do with the abs. if i'm not mistaken its because the bcm/ecm is trying to communicate with the abs module bringing the abs and (brake) light on. they also make it to trigger both lights to let the driver know there is a serious problem with the system. the other possibility (the reason i could be wrong) is if the floaty thing in the reserivoir is stuck.

yeah, if you have traction control at all likley that light would be on too. looks good though i would have liked to see some cleaner brake lines (though i dont have a right to bitch since i suck at bending them) but you have one of the best looking engines on the org or likely at most shows, so try to keep that thing as nice as possible its one sick bay man.

funny thing is i have one of those sitting on my work bench at home for a future project myself.

Thanks everybody for the info on the light, hopefully when I program the ABS light to go off through HPT that brake light will go off.

Jason, yea believe me im not happy with the brake lines at all but thats the best I could do with the space that I had to work with them. I should of did this swap when I had the engine out of the car over the summer, would of been alot easier. Thanks though man.

Engine bay will look ALOT 'blingier' if things go right here in a while.

i was going to look into doing braided lines down out of the unit to under the car where its not seen then convert them to metal.

Very nice! One of the many things on my list thsi year lol. And yes the Ebrake light is because of the abs being gone. On the cars at work the, ebrake, abs and vdc lights all come on together.

Mind if I ask what you used to comp;ete the swap? Is that a J master cylinder or just the J resevoir? What did the adapter come off of?

Kyle thanks man, yea took me long enough lol

Ecotecpower, thanks for the info man

CAVETTE- You need the master cylinder, the SS brake lines from the m/c to the distribution block(the aluminum piece you see there) and the bracket. Get all that from an 03+ Eco j-body with non abs of course.

The ABS can be disabled with a Tech II.
