Testing.. Testing-1-2(28 pictures : 1024x768 resolution)

Well yesterday I bought a new camera and I decided to play around with it. Pictures aren't that great but I don't think they are horrible either. Gotta thank Jeff(Karnage) for the hook-up on the camera and Ryan(Darkstars) for helping me out and answering some questions etc. All these were taken in Manual, hence why some didn't turn out to well(or at least like I wanted) but I didn't want to use Auto because I want to learn on what to mess with opposed to just snapping pictures..but odds are if you don't like the picture I've already noticed and have a dislike for it as well.. I also gathered some "Excuses" that are at the bottom of the post for those who want to read about why most of the pictures didn't turn out that great lol

And since I know no one seems to read anything after they see pictures I'll put this here. As for the car.. nothing is really done to it.. sorry to disappoint.. It's not my main concern much anymore and wouldn't say I've lost interest[yet] but I'm saving for more important things and within 2 weeks the stock suspension will be going back on. The wheels are the 99 z24 wheels I had on last year but I stripped them down and color matched them(Ultra Silver Metallic) at work. and the car hasn't been washed in 2 weeks. so its somewhat dirty but hides well with silver.

Anyway onto the pictures, keep in mind none of these have been edited.. Any suggestions, comments, or constructive criticism is fine with me and if the image resolution is a problem for you buy a bigger monitor because on my 19" wide screen they look perfect lol

These are from last night, a hour after I got home with the new camera.

Cool reflection I thought

Messed with white balance

Dirty headlights from 400miles of driving in past 2 days and no time or motivation to wash it(getting cold lol)

Messing with the focusing

Here are pictures from today, mainly more testing, but also testing and finding locations for next year possibly..

Kinda sad to lose this picture due to white balance and being blurry because it looks like a cool angle and shot

Here is what white balance can do, Next 3 pictures are all the same but messing with white balance

I had a friend with me for the pictures today and she noticed this as she was bored and cold blah blah and made sure I saw this and I thought it was funny enough to share
Former mayor lol

Now for some excuses on the pictures

-In the first photo set the black corners in the photos.. It was because I was using 2 filters when really I should have only used 1, and it got out a little far and got in the view.
-In the second set, Plenty of photo errors. With the sun falling I got a lot of reddish/orange light, this also accompanied by the red building made it hard(for me anyway) to counteract with white balance settings and they all turned out reddish.. Maybe more experience or even lowering the white balance more could of solved this but I also had my friend with me and it was cold and windy and she made sure I knew that many times as well.. So I didn't take a lot of time in one spot messing with settings like I originally wanted. Just mainly tested this location.
-In the third set I wish I could of located the car better under the bridge, also probably should of waited a hour later to go there because I was getting a lot of light on the front side, then being really dark on the back side and made it hard to set my aperture and exposure.

So there you go, comment away on car, photos, what ever. Didn't plan on posting but I'm really bored and figured I may get some tips from some of the photographers on here which I would much appreciate. Thanks

Oh! Almost forgot. The camera I bought is the Sony Alpha 300 with the Standard DT18-70mm F3.5-5.6 Lens w/ Hood, also with Sony Circular Polarizing filter. And must mention.. Using a 16GB Sandisk Extreme III Compact flash for Memory thanks to Ryan again lol

Try not centering the car in every photo, but make sure it is still the subject of the photo.

Crop that a bit differently and I'd say this is the best. Keep at it, you'll get the hang of it. If I were you, I'd shoot in aperture priority mostly, and adjust your shutter compensation slightly if you find theyre not coming out the way you want. Also, if you can, carry around a white piece of paper - most cameras have an custom white balance feature. Take a picture of the white paper in the location you're in, set that to the white balance and voila.

Good luck, and like I said you'll get better as you use it, but don't think the camera makes the pictures - it's all the photographer.

lol, funny thing was the last few pictures I've taken were with my step-dad's Olympus.. gave it back to him and he is currently working in Vegas so I had to even more get a new camera lol, Because the only other one I got is my trusty 5yr old Sony Mavica 1.3mp lol.

slick02eco wrote:You stole one of my spots lol. Where is that building at? The red and white one?

Lol, I noticed that alley way and I wanted to take some pictures there but someone was getting antsy and wanted to leave so we did. the other building is in Fort Wayne somewhere
Plus I found a few other spots I'm going to try out at some point.

Thanks Dave. Darkstars also told me about the white paper and I liked the idea and just didn't use it when I went out the first time. He also suggested being in Aperture or Shutter priority as well so if I'm hearing that more then once it must be something I need to try and I plan to. And again Thanks for the tips and comment

sndsgood wrote:the pics look a little washed out to me. the ones under the bridge where you in full shade look allot better. whas it sunny out when you took the outside pics, or overcast?

the set from Saturday was overcast. the set with the white and red building had a good amount of sunlight and sun was falling so it really put a red hue into it and i didn't adjust white balance enough to compensate so they got washed out. then the set under the bridge also had sunlight but i was under the bridge so it killed most the brightness minus the front of the car where it leaked in light out of the alley way.

Everyone else thanks for the good comments. Appreciate it.

Thanks, I like the z wheels better as well, I had the chrome LS sport wheels on for a little while after i dropped it and i didnt like them to much. i've always liked 95-99z wheels. also the color is so similar because i painted them the same color as the car
