my '04 sunfire. after careful thinking, i have decided to go n/a. dont have much done as of right now. just 4-1 header, cat, thrush glasspack, 2 1/4 exhaust pipe, dynowmax super turbo muffler, shift plus, a/c bypass with shorter belt. interior plans are to get one racing seat, 5 point roll cage(regular 4 point with one beside passenger door). i ran the car when it was stock and ran a 16.7 in the 1/4. as soon as i get the chance, i'm going again and hoping to run around 15.9. i'm thinking thats what i should run with all the weight gone and the few mods i have. any advice, helpful hints, comments welcome.
needs to be lowered. the front end is going to be changed over to an 03+ cavy front.
I ran a 15.4 with just an AEM intake. I did have a c/f hood and trunk and I think I had my back seat removed. But other then that nothing. I do see you have an Auto but I think you should be running better then 15.7 with all the weight savings and mods. Good luck with it though.

forget the cage...will add more weight and you will never go fast enough n/a in that car to need it. use the money to swap to a 5-speed
Even keepin the auto might not be that bad of an idea. With the right tuning and a better stall converter, the longer gears may be usefull aswell. If your going to be running bracket races, you know you will be consistant. Its looking crazy so far. If you got a cf hood you could be saving another few pounds. Running N/A is really expensive. Have fun!
My opinion, is that you should go all the way in the lightening process... Take out center console, dash (replace with sheet metal) get a new steering wheel, or atleast rip out the air bags, as those are a ew pounds each..
I looked in yur profile, and this is the only car listed... b ut since theres only one seat, im not 100% sure. Is this just going to be for races, or is it a daily driver as well???? if so, i feel sorry for passengers haha.
If she is being saved for the track, enjoy. You can easily remove lights, get CF doors, new hood,say good bye to air conditioning and stereo, no need for a glovebox etc.
also, unless its seeing regular use on teh streets, dont waste money on a front end swap... please.
Honestly, you still have a stereo, so you're not that serious about this, and probably will give up soon, sorry.
You need 2.5" piping, and that "super turbo" is uber-restrictive, get a straight-through.

You had better keep all the ac components and reinstall the AC if you ever sell your car. That is an easy way to decrease the value of an already fast depreciating car.
The five point cage is a waste no need for it and the weight from it will just slow you down.
I agree with the coment to swap to a 5spd. That slushbox aka auto trans is holding you back bigtime at this point. You are on the right track with the b&m shift plus but just until you swap to a 5 speed.
Do you actually have your CAI mounted in the fenderwell so it is a true CAI or do you just have a WAI?
I doubt that muffler is going to hold you back. It still flows more than stock and atleast it will not be anoyinglly loud.

i am serious about going all motor. i did just decide to do this.the radio is staying. i'd go nuts w/o it. i do have an aftermarket steering wheel. you just can't see it.the console and dash will probably come out once i get another dd. i have no plans on selling the car. its mine.
i am upgrading the exhaust to 2.5" dont plan on passengers riding w/ me. they will slow me down. lol. also, an intake is an intake, wheather its in the engine bay or in the fender. read the thread that was made about intakes in the "official intake thread" in the performance section. oh, and why so much hate for the autos? lol. i am going with a roll cage, more than likely just a 4 point. not having a passenger seat will probably make up the difference or close to it. I do plan on getting a carbon fiber hood.
Boost it so much simpler. Trust me from experience N/A will be a waste of time when you put more cash and time into making power N/A then you would boost.

my car is also an 04 sunfire with an automatic with only bolt ons and cams and its gutted worse then his, and you know what i get the last laugh racing boosted cars. the guy with a 5spd cobalt ss didnt think it was funny that i stuck with him from there famous "20-40 roll", and the guy with an 06 STI didnt think it was funny that i beat him off the launch upto 20 with my STREET TIRES. granted yes he had 2 cars by 70 and i only held him by a nose but i still beat his AWD BOOSTED car from a launch.
the sound deadener on the firwall is mostly gone now and ive removed about 30 lbs in wiring alone also and i still have my stereo and heater and passenger seat also.
we'll see who's laughing when i pull a strong 13 second run with my automatic and i still drive it everyday.
