Just want to say thanks to the guys over at Black Cat Customs. The cluster looks amazing.
Not installed yet obviously. Pretty cold here up in IL right now with no heated garage. Hope to try and tough it out and maybe install it next weekend. I'll post more pics when its installed.
Looks good, I think I would have done more.
I ordered the Green LED upgrade as well to go along with my green lit stereo faceplate, hvac controls, and the PRND123 shift plate light.
I'm more of a fan of the stock look then something crazy and overdone.
looks good man, I can't wait to order my 140+mph one
Ok guys I need some help. I am half way through installing my cluster. I have the old one out, the new one in, the dash still apart and everything. I fired up the car to make sure all the gauges are reading right and the cluster lights up. Everything seems to be working except the odometer.
Prior to installing this cluster, my old cluster had a mileage around 62,000 and a trip at about 90 miles. After putting the new cluster in, the mileage is now reading 98.800 miles and the trip was at 330 miles. I read that the 00+ odometer readings are stored in the BCM, but if this is so how come I'm not getting the correct mileage on my 02 Cavalier.
I have no idea what to do, I'm going to attempt to disconnect the battery and the cluster fuse to maybe try and reset it. Any ideas of what could fix this?
I think the problem is that the cluster you have is displaying KM instead of miles.
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
I have no idea and I apologize for the thread jack but I am interested in the lit up PRND123 shift plate light. Could I get some info? But I hope that you get this to work becuase it looks nice.
I like the style of the lettering on the cluster. Just not digging the "Cavalier".....never liked that style.
Still looks good !!!! F the cold !!! Install it !!!!

Is there anyway to change it back to miles? I'll plug in my old cluster and check the miles and do a quick convert to KM to see if it matches the other reading.

Take off the center console and underneath is the lightbulb that lights up the gear indicator plate. I simply bought a #194 LED over at superbrightlieds.com
I just checked my old mileage. It was at 61393. Did a quick convert to KM using google and it came out to 98,802 kilometers. And the new guage reads 98,805. So it does seem like it is reading in KM for some reason.
Ok the new cluster if fully installed.
I went out for a 10min test drive to check everything over. The gas gauge and temp gauges worked no problem. The RPM wasn't working right however. At idle the RPM was below 0 and anytime I was driving and had my foot off the gas, the needle would instantly drop below 0. Cruising at around 35MPH, which I know typically is at the 1500RPM range for my car, was now reading at around 700. So it would seem the needle was off by 7-800 RPM. I got home, turned the car off, grabbed the camera to come back out and take a picture of the 0 RPM idle, and now all of a sudden it seemed to fix itself and it works fine. Idles around 700 and not 0.
The odometer still reads KM, and from reading around it appears I have a Canadian cluster which reads as KM, and I have to go to a dealership and have them change the country code to US to make it read mileage. I'm not meaning to complain too much as I love the cluster and think its amazing, but now I have to spend even more money to have the dealership switch the code back to US because Black Cat Custom gave me a Canadian cluster. Again, not saying it was purposely, probably something just overlooked during production due to all the Christmas orders, but having a KM cluster doesn't suit me. Anyone ever have this problem with Black Cat Custom? Do you think it's possible to get some sort of refund or reimbursement from Alex for the price of the dealership cost when I get the country code changed, as I already spent $272 on the cluster and now I have to pay for whatever the dealership is going to charge. Any idea on what that costs?
Also, does anyone know if that has any significance to my speedometer? If the speedometer says I'm going 30MPH, could it be off considering the mileage is in KM and maybe giving me a false reading on the speedometer which is still in MPH?
I'll have to ride along a friend/relative this week and talk to them on the phone as I pace them to see if the speedometer checks out with the proper MPH.
Well heres the pic of the cluster. Again sorry for that rant up above. I'll get a night time shot of the green LED upgrade in action tonight after work.
Why don't you call them and explain to them the problem. Obviously, you live in the states and do not use KM. I am sure they will replace the product included with the corrected features. I have a feeling your speedometer is correct. Just not the odometer. Good luck, I really like the look of it.
Ok thanks for the input guys. I already shot Alex an email earlier today regarding the situation. I am in no way saying this is a bad company. Their product is excellent and I love it. My cluster being in KM was something probably overlooked as my cluster took around 15 days to ship and when I emailed him regarding the delay he said he was overwhelmed a bit from the holidays. So I'm sure thats the reason for the slight mess up. If the odometer is the only thing wrong, and the speedometer works fine in MPH. Then I might not even bother getting it fixed. Converting KM to MPH isn't that difficult and I do my own oil changes on a 3 month basis so I don't need to worry about figuring out what 3,000 miles is. Well off to work. I'll post up a night time pick when I get off of work in about 4-5 hours.
Ok heres the night picture.
For some reason the tachometer is messed up again and idles at or close to 0 and when driving the rpm is noticeably 7-800 below the where it normally is.
nice. how much did that run ya?
even tho its messed up it looks really cool
Those look awesome just sent email to see what they can do. Once again very nice.

4 Cams...32 Valves...5 Liters...This Could Get Fun!
I got in touch with Alex today. He was shocked to hear I was sent a Canadian Cluster. He said "the cluster came out of a box, unmodified, and there’s no doubt it had an mph display." So he has no idea how I ended up with a cluster that read in KM. He also said that would make my speedometer reading off and giving me a reading of about 60% higher. So I have no choice but to ship it back to him so he can fix it as opposed to making an entirely new custom one.
All total it ran me $272 shipped.
$99 for the cluster face
$149 for the green LED upgrade (which isn't even listed as an optional color on the site but he did it for me anyways
)
$24 for shipping costs and insurance I would guess.
Excellent guy to work with. Thankfully I can ship it back to him for free through my parent's work, so that won't cost me extra.
Plus having to take off the dash 3-4 times to try and figure it out helps as I can now do the entire procedure in about 20minutes.
