Eco swap underway..The slow progression..

Well it started out as a 99 sunfire with a 99 cav front...its getting a whole new kit, new suspension and a turbo engine...here is some of my progress in the past bit on the engine swap/ build. Ill be updating this as i progress..Phil

looks like your having a good time lol. i must ask tho. why did you smash the body kit? i see it was broke but it looked like an easy fix and make $100 off the deal. either way good luck and ill be watching it progress

Well I would keep him away from the new harness then... I can just see the problems if he gets a hold of that. Looks like a great first day, and it also seems like you are doing it right too. Keep it going, and clean the bay while you can.

Didnt get to much done today due to a sprained ankle and all that fun stuff. I pulled out the heater/fan unit and started to sound deaden the firewall. I also tried using expanding foam in the big gaps we have...jury is out on that one on how well it worked lol..

Damn it your beating me....

... But i do have a semi polished ecotec motor! Keep up the good work phil. If you need any pics of the 2003 parts, i have everything still out of the car... lol.

Well today i got a bit done..still a little slow with the ankle. I finished up sound deadening the firewall and installed my 2004 heater setup, reinstalled the pedal assemblies and thats about it. Tommorow i clean up the wire harness and start to install it if time allows it.



And here is my ankle for all your viewing fun

Very nice work so far man, its awsome to see it done the proper way the first time.
That sux about the ankle though, looks nasty.

Looking good bro. I tore out my interior and carpet tonight and god damn GM puts some heavy duty lock-tite on the threads of the seat belt bolts. Lol...

Well i havent done to much but i got my mounts welded in for the getrag swap and some holes welded up in the engine bay from the previous owner. I also got the wire harness in the interior mostly done as well. On to the pics.

I always wonderd with the 5 speed swap and the mounts, do you just get the measurements from a donor car as to where to weld in the mounts?

I had got some measurements from a cav with a getrag from the wrecker fo the rear mounts and then just went from there. There is a how to a made up in the tranny forums for everyone for this swap since it comes up very often...phil

Hmm.... I do have everything available to me for a manual swap. Just i cannot find a damn Getrag transmission anywhere around here or ebay for myself to do one. AS much as i would love to do one, i'm going to stick with the auto for now.
