Half way done. Q-Logic Kick Pods.
Friday, December 21, 2007 3:35 PM
I started working on these today and I finally got the first side done. All that is left now is the driver side and wiring. Also, this is my first time installing kick pods so I have been very careful about the cutting and drilling on these. They are too expensive to replace if a @!#$ one up, lol. I went with SPL 5 1/4's mids with the silk dome tweeter and crossovers. These will be powered by a 300 watt amp I have stashed away.

I know I could have done a little extra work and installed 6 1/2's, but I'm still new at custom speaker installing so this will do for now

Thanks for looking

Love the Q-logic kicks, my buddy has those sitting around and I've been tempted many times to "borrow" them.

Should look awesome installed.

Sure thing man. I am also going to reinforce these with a couple layers of fiberglass when I finish getting the speakers mounted. I listed to a ton of rap, so I really plan on beating the crap out of them.

LoL. I know these aren't the best on the market, but they'll do just fine I'm sure. I'll probably upgrade later on.

-----------

Just finished up the drivers side. This one was much easier since I knew what to do and what I'd encounter.

I always thought that is a poor place for them. It prolly sounds a litle better than in the door due to the way they are positioned. It is just that it the door they are a litle more protected. With them on the floor it is one more thing to worry about especially if you get snow in your area. Plus it seems that the people that ride with you never seem to be as cautiuos when they enter or exit as you are. I am not bashing this at all just some food for thought. As long as you like it. I bet it will sound pretty good. Enjoy

You have a valid point there, but the thing is that I rarely have people riding with me. The main person who gets in my car is my g/f and I kinda got her trained on to be careful with it comes to my car. Its all good.

definatly reinforce them they are made cheap and thin so beef them up as best as you can. and as for placement. aslong as they are reinforced you shouldnt have to much problems with them. ive been running kickpanel speakers for about the last 12 years and have yet do destroy a speaker as long as your install is solid you should be fine. as for placement pushing the speakers futher away from the listener helps to equalise the pathlength diffrence between the speakers and the listener giving a better soundstagw which makes for a more realistic feel.

driver side on a 5 speed takes some getting used to i have them and its tight enough for me with out the pods but even tighter with the pods kinda like all ur ducks in one row lol, but u get used to it quick

I drove Major's Blue car many of times with them installed and never had any problems with them at all with a 5-speed. I think it really helps that front stage a ton. I'd say hide a nice mid bass driver in the door with some sound deading around it and you will be very very happy...

I'm not trying to jack your thread, but here are a couple of pics of my kickpanels. They made a huge difference in the sound. I love them. BTW, they're 6.5s.

You wont believe it, but I got mine for a staggering price off of eBay for $55 shipped. Thats a fraction of how much they cost elsewhere. Also, these were brand new sealed in the original box. You can buy them from sounddomain though and they are not cheap.

diffrnt - Those look great. I wanted to do 6 1/2's. What method did you use to make those 6 1/2's fit? Are they mounted from the back?

z yaaaa - Thanks, I have been wanting them for a long time. Luckily I caught a swell deal.

FIRE2NV - Thanks man. I'll have these wired up and running sometime after Christmas and hopefully I'll love them too.

No, they are mounted from the front. They fit perfectly with the grilles that came with them.

look awsome... cant wait to hear how they sound...

but that was one of my concerns too... in a 5 speed how "bad" is it?... like mines my daily driver... would it be comfortable or would my feet be all cramped in there...

I finally got them installed, but their not wired yet. That'll happen after Christmas I hope. I drive an auto so I'm not sure about how hard it would be with a 5 speed.

Thanks for looking.

veeerryyy niiiice. Have been contemplating putting in kick-panel pods but my idiot friends that ride shotgun will more than likely kick the grills in if I even install them. lol
