New Progress Pics!!! Lots of Goodies :-)
Saturday, November 24, 2007 9:57 PM
Well, it's been a while since I have posted pics of any progress on my transmission swap, as well as any updated pics from the last time I was working on my car, so I thought I'd snap some and let you guys have a look :-) Plus, I don't think I've ever posted any pics of the interior or trunk setup either, so I snapped some more pics. Here goes.

Here are some pics just after I got the motor pulled. I lost count how many times it's been out. I think this is the 6th or 7th time. This time it's getting a .074" MLS head gasket, and hopefully a set of HO cams if all goes well. Maybe some stiffer valve springs, and that will be about it.

Oh, so empty :-(

Side shot

Cut out the old Isuzu rear mount

Mocking up the location for the new Getrag rear mount.

Hmmm...what could this be???

Ahh yes, a nice set of Eibach front and rear sway bars.

The nice new front sway bar just didn't go along with the rusted subframe, so I figured what the hell, why not get it sandblasted and powdercoated to make it look pretty too!

Got the control arms and trans mounts painted up all nice too. Just waiting to get access to the press at work to press in the TTR bushings.

Figured I'd make the power steering rack look nice too

Ahh yes, had to take a pic of the tool collection

Some random shots of the s/c which is for sale and a bunch of other miscellaneous crap.

Here is the new Getrag trans. Already got it cracked open. Just waiting to get the LSD installed and get it sealed back up.

The resurfaced flywheel waiting for a new clutch. Thinking about a Clutchmasters Stage 3

With the new transmission, it gave me an excuse to get a new B&M shifter

Here is an undercar shot

Okay, here are the interior shots

Here is the trunk setup which has been newly finished

Shot of the dirty ass end

And finally a goofy pic of me, lol

If you are wondering why I am going through all of this (tranny swap, built motor, etc.) and am selling the s/c, well it just wan't enough power anymore for me. Next progress thread I post should be of some nice new turbo parts :-) School is keeping me busy right now and I haven't been able to work as much as I'd like, so finances are down. Hopefully I can make some good cash over Christmas break so I can begin the turbo project. Enjoy!

Nice man, I like the resonator setup that is going to sound good with the S/C.

Thanks! It sounded pretty sick with the S/C. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like with a turbo.

Thank you! I am going to definitely try to make it to the bash. But I have a feeling that the turbo project will drain most of my funds. I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to swing the trip down there. Especially being so damn far away

LOL, ah yes. I forgot about that. I hit a bolt in a parking lot that ripped the corner off of my modified oil pan for the built motor (since it has the 2.3 oil pump swap) so I had to cut the corner off that pan and patch it in on my modified pan. That pan was ruined anyway when my original motor threw a rod. Blew a hole in the opposite end of the pan

That would sure be nice! However when I think of going to Ohio, I think "down" and not up. I'm in WI And DAMN, you have a nice build going on as well! Reminds me of when I was building mine. That head looks soooo sexy! Wish I could get a ported and polished built head for the LD9 Love your car! Keep me updated on your progress! Especially your standalone.

Sounds fun :-) Yes, we'll all have to meet up in the Dells for sure! Hopefully I'll have the car running by then and it doesn't spin a rod bearing the day of the meet like it did this year

In the trunck pic, what is that white bottle? At first i thought it was the washer tank, but it's got clear liquid inside?

What is it.

I'm looking to get $1100 shipped OBO. So make an offer if you are interested. I've got a few other people interested as well.

Ryan1 wrote:In the trunck pic, what is that white bottle? At first i thought it was the washer tank, but it's got clear liquid inside?

The white bottle in the trunk is the tank for my alcohol injection setup. The pump and everything is hidden underneath the tank

Admiral Jedi wrote:The car looks great. I love the trunk setup.

Thanks man! It took a lot of time and work to finally get it to look how I wanted it to. I'm happy with how it came out.

Turbo Tech Racing wrote:Looks very good!

Thanks Aaron! I have to give you credit for hooking me up with a bunch of the parts that I have. I'm sure I'll be placing another order soon Speaking of that, I e-mailed you a while ago wondering if you can get Clutchmaster clutches. Could you PM me with details?

Jcavi (JoeDM in training) wrote:nice man. whats your game plan for getting the mount on the first try? thats really the only part that would scare. Fab work has come to haunt me in my recent years.

Well, I've got pics from Lenko's writeup with measurements. I plan to mock it up that way, drop the trans in and make sure it matches up, then weld it in. Should work out okay.

Thanks z yaaaa! I love how the subframe turned out. I was contemplating whether I wanted gloss black or chrome. I'm glad I decided on gloss black. It looks sick! Yeah, I'm hoping Paul can work something out with the trans. Only thing is the trans is in Eau Claire at my apartment so Paul wouldn't have to drive so far. If you guys wanted to see the car, you'd have to drive another hour and a half to my parents house. That's where I'm working on it right now. If you have the time, I'd be glad to show you!

Looking good!

I sold you the TB spacer pictured if I recall?

That setup work nicely I assume? Always wanted to try that out with I had my M45 and Coolingmist kit.

I give you an A+ on the subframe and suspension work.
Getrag trans FTW
Weird I have the same toolbox only in black
Are you interested in selling the alky kit or are you going to use it with the turbo setup? Turbo intercooled or just using alky to cool?
Glad to see you got your flywheel resurfaced! Get that clutchmasters FX300 clutch. It is what I am using and I love it.
IMO the interior looks a little odd. Not sure what seems out of place though.
The trunk setup looks very good.

As far as the clutch goes. Mine has the same pedal feel as stock. It grips just enough that you will notice it is a performance clutch but is just as streetable as the stock one for a daily driver. When I talked to clutchmaster they were very addiment about me waiting until a full 500 miles of stop and go driving before beating on as well as having the flywheel resurfaced. I did both and so far so good.

Nice work man, good call on the Getrag swap, you wont regret it. I love my 97 with a getrag, I will NEVER go back!
I cant remember what its supposed to look like, but that isnt the old flywheel from your isuzu is it?

Yeah, that's right! I forgot that it was you I got it from. It worked awesome when the s/c was on there. Thanks again! I think I'll be using it for the turbo setup as well.

Sure have been. I've been busier with school and work which sucks...my car hasn't seen as much TLC as it deserves. Oh well, hopefully more time over Christmas break. Good luck with your trans work!

Thanks for the comments Wade! I think I am going to keep the alky setup for when I go turbo. I will be intercooling it, but I put so much work into wiring and integrating the alky system into the trunk setup, I don't think I'll be taking it out. Then again, we'll see

Thanks for the review of the Clutchmasters clutch! You are the only one that I know that actually has one. It's good to know it's working well. After dealing with SPEC last time, I refuse to give them anymore business. So the interior looks odd....hmmmm...maybe its the dirty driver's side floor I think it's actually too much silver. I'm going to put the dash air bag and vent back to black. Maybe the whole interior. I dunno. When I was in high school, I went through the painting phase as you can tell. Now it's kinda old. I mean I did a quality job and all and didn't paint stupid @!#$, but I kinda want an all black interior now. We'll see. Engine work is my top priority. Interior and exterior will come in a year or two.

Nope, that is the Getrag flywheel. The isuzu flywheel has the raised sides.
