were the wheels on the red balt the SS 18's or the sport 17's? for some reason they look smaller then the 18's to me...
is that car acctually a 'sport' or a true ss?
wait... i see now its got cloth seats and no SS front/rear lips/bumpers/whatever they are. it must be an SS badged 'sport'

Nice location for pics. My only question is why do you always turn your wheels in the pictures? It so kills the pics.
FU Tuning
I think I remember that grand am from the n-body forums when I had my ga. Is he a member of Florida N-bodies?
Nice pics btw.
wow nice pics and cars!!
one thing, i absolutely love the projectors on the red cobalt..pure sex
last three pix are the turbo cobalt, it's all sleeper til he steps on it.
C & C welcome
Since when did balts have drive by cable set ups? I swore they were always drive by wire since beginning?

GM makes NON Supercharged SS Cobalts - The SS SEDAN is NOT Supercharged, the NON S/C'ed SS Cobalts have the 170hp 2.4 ECO
Picture of a NON S/C'ed SS at a car dealer. same as the car above. He did not MIS-BADGE the car
hey now, i'm sure brad knows that. he just wasn't sure if it had a supercharger or not. but then he noticed the front lip wasn't there, the tall spoiler wasn't on, and the words "SUPERCHARGED" weren't under the ss.
icemike89, i don't know if he is a member. like i said, first meet there for me.

No, I'm sure he doesn't know that. That is not what he questioned. HE asked if it was a "Sport with SS badges"? He never asked if it was Supercharged or not? He thought this guy was "FAKING a SS"

ok yeah, i knew all that stuff. BUT it still looks more like a cobalt 'sport' than an SS. the only thing that makes that car an SS basiclly are the badges and the VIN number. does it even have the rear disk brakes? seriously, why would want want an SS that doesnt have all the neat stuff that comes with it? im not just talking about not just the supercharger, im talkin about the leather seats, the 18" rims (the ones on this particular one do look like the sport 17's to me, not saying there NOT 18's, just saying they dont look like it.... thats all), the neat lower sections on the front/rear bumpers or the high-rise spoiler. to me its pointless and just as bad as mis-badging a car cuz it really doesnt have a damn thing that makes it an SS.
personally-i believe its retarded, to me its like the factory mis-badged them. SS stands for 'super-sport' and means its the top of the line and demands respect, demands the best parts, and thats why u pay more for them. IMO, sure this guy bought a true 'ss' in all, but the fact that it lacks 90% of the stuff that makes a cobalt SS a cobalt SS to ME makes it a factory mis-bagded car. SCREW gm for trying to sell cars like that. they think ppl see the ss and low sticker price they'll be all over it.... meh.

i agree brad. my brother owns a "fake" SS too. i've tried everything to convince him to get a real SS but he really can't afford to right now.
i'm just glad we own Z24's and not cavaliers with z24 kits.

The rims are the same design, the Supercharged SS has FORGED 18" wheels which make them lighter.
The Cobalt above has a BIGGER ENGINE and is LOADED, power windows/locks/etc. The main reason behind the different badging would be that it has a 170hp 2.4l Ecotec unlike a base model Cobalt that has 16" wheels or 15" with hubcaps and a 145hp 2.2l Ecotec.
Either way, he did not mis-badge his car. GM did not misbagde his car.
Not eveyone in the world wants a Supercharged car with a manual transmission, some people actually like a sporty car that is fun to drive and practical.
BTW, the Supercharged SS has an option package too. LSD, moonroof, two-tone leather, Recaro Buckets, Pioneer 7 speaker etc. etc. Not every car needs to be the same, the same = BORING!

uhm... i would LOVE to see proof of that, last i heard the stock 18's weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 52lbs with the tire, highly doubtful their forged.

i guess you've never heard of an LS or a Sport version before? they both can have the 2.4 in them as well as damn near every option the SS can have, granted the SS has many other things that can be had, but im talking about the basic stuff, including leather seats and 17" wanna-be ss 18's look-a-like rims.
James (ROLN19S) (JuicyJ) wrote:Either way, he did not mis-badge his car. GM did not misbagde his car.
Technically speaking no... but if you think about it... it may as well be.
James (ROLN19S) (JuicyJ) wrote:Not eveyone in the world wants a Supercharged car with a manual transmission, some people actually like a sporty car that is fun to drive and practical.
Ok, sure. That what the Ls or Sport versions should be for. Again, SS stands for excelence, it should'nt be getting dogged like this because people want BASICALLY, yes... I said BASICALLY (doesnt mean thats what it is) a factory 'mis-badged' car. i say that because it's MY opinion... i know its not that way.

I agree, BUT... for the money spent on the above SS you can easily have bought a just as nice LS or Sport and not have to pay the outrageous insurance premiums. The above SS doesnt even warrant the more expensive fees.
the fact of the matter is, you can go out, and buy yourself a Cobalt Sport that would be nicer than the above car, pay less money for it, and pay less insurance. which IMO makes it a factory mis-badged car. IMO IMO IMO.

The 2.4 was ONLY available in the NON Supercharged SS, now called the Cobalt Sport.
There is an LS (BASE MODEL) and an LT (Loaded model) and then the SS models. The LT's are available with some options like leather and the 7speaker Pioneer Sound system, but that is about it.
The 17" wheels are/were ONLY available on the SS/Sport models. Period
Type in "Cobalt SS Forged Wheels" on Google
"FE5 suspension – standard on the SS Supercharged, it was developed on the racetrack to deliver sports car levels of handling and grip; 24-mm front stabilizer bar and 22-mm rear stabilizer bar, higher-rate springs and bushings, four-wheel disc brakes, monotube shocks and
18-inch forged aluminum wheels with complementing performance tires"
I know these things to be true as I have the Catalogue at home, I was going to purchase on a couple years ago.
hey wat font lip is that on the grand am? ive been looking for it to deter my firend from getting a nasty body kit on his gt lol, oh and that turboed eco engine looks sweet nice pics too!
that's true of the new 08 SS wheels... its all over everywhere that their forged. but the old skool 05-07's??? i really dont think so. although ive never personally lifted one or weighed one to be 100% positive... BUT, its all over the cobaltss.net forums. the stock 18" SS's weigh 25lbs. sorry, i just dont see that # being forged. standard 17" forged wheels weigh in near 12-15 lbs, and 18's weighing in at around 16-20.
also, i could of sworn that ive seen a few LS's with the 2.4 in them... but i could be wrong.
ok, so does the above SS indeed have the 17" wanna-be 18's on it??? lol thats what basically started this...
