First off, a recap of what's been going on so far...
Get the trailer. The truck that I was going to use needed a new water pump. No worries, I have a hitch on my car, so off to go get a U-Haul trailer.
Get the engine. I had to work that day, so I took half the day off so I can go get the engine from the junkyard. Junkyard guys thought I was nuts towing with the Fire
3400 from a 2001 Grand Am
Then, between bills and such, spent the next few months getting parts (I'm still lacking a few, but have enough to get started). Thanks to Orlandomon for the new flywheel (however, may not need it at this point).
Which leads to today...
I've been chomping at the bit to get things started, but I only have access to 1 engine lift and my dad's car was parked under it while he was putting on a new 3 carb manifold on his Monte Carlo (pics upon request).
He just finished up today, so I was able to get started on prepping the car for the engine swap...
I have about half of the engine unplugged from the harness and a few things disconnected after this point.
More as it progresses...
(I know that 56k users, myself included, will be able to load this post just fine, but given the length of time for this project, there may be a chance that it will take a while to load further down the line)

That's cute. A small little trailor for your sunfire to pull its new little engine home. lolz. Good luck on the swap man! It's gunna be sick!
^^^^^ haha exactly what i thought
Nice, another red SE getting a 3400. You got the harness from a 3400? I just gotta finish up the harness on the one im doing and I can start it up!
looking good Rob! keep it up man.

That ought to be pretty sweet, are you gonna mod the 3400 or put it in stock? Either way should be an improvement

I already modded it kind-of... Added MSD coils and changed the belt routing pattern.
Once its in and running, I'm either going to swap in some high flow heads or a turbo kit.... all depends on how much $$$ I have
not shown is the AC compressor and that I had to change the pulley on the tensioner (I have the wrong on on in this pic)
Reason I changed the routing pattern is so I can use the stock upper frame mount rather than weld in an Alero/Grand Am mount (thanks to SHOoff and Quiklilcav for the tip). Just have take off the y-piece from the J mount and replace that with a 94-97 Grand Am 3.1 mount, then the other half from the same year that bolts to the engine (the engine-side part is on back order currently, but when I get the engine in, I'll get a pic of what I mean)

175k miles... the 2.2 is getting worn out. was time for an upgrade.... it was either going to be the 3400 or the LD9

Alexis: Dustin, you're ghey, lol. I am better. I have tits, and tits rule all.
Nice!
Going to be a fun Sunfire once finished.
Diff insert got here yesterday (that counteracts the bad news on the engine mount bracket I ordered being discontinued by GM)
Installed the short shifter today (waiting till the weekend to work on the engine again) -- thanks to my father's handywork, I have a custom knob adapter as well
I have a new set of shift cables to replace the factory ones as well since all the spring clips snapped off long ago.
nice man keep up with the updates
looks like a SWEET project you have going there!!!

^^ Thanks
that'll help along the way
god i cant WAIT till this gets done. its gonna be freekin SWEET. keep it up rob
man if you're swapping that in in a way that keeps it OBD2 legal, much props to you, i wouldn't have the patience for re-pinning wire harnesses and making the stock ecu work in there... Should be sweet, but start saving for headwork, valvetrain, and a cam now.

Scarab -- fortunately I live in an area that doesn't have emissions, so while I'll attempt to keep it OBDII compliant, its not a huge priority

Reason for the extended time, *makes mental note* need to take out the halfshafts first. Also having the right sized sockets and whatnot helps too
I'll be putting in the Prothane trans mounts here shortly...
spiffy now hurry along
