My FUN filled weekend...
Saturday, April 21, 2007 9:24 PM
well this was one of the most interesting weekends i can say i have ever had.
first of all i took off friday and we went to my friends garage to start the carnage, and
let me tell you NEVER EVER again will i do this. We Started at 2PM friday.
if i mess it up again to a shop it goes.

how stiff is your suspension????
2 wheel baby i love ths pic

here is what i gotta install.

ok. i tried to do the subframe mod thats on jbo posted by the PJ and lets just say it was
a total waste of time. It took more time to do that than to just drop the suspension k member.

here is the member dropped

so how may dudes does this take geez... LOL i am for ever gratefull to my friends that helped
with this project... THANKS GUYS

after we Finaly got the tranny off at 10PM friday night we called it a night and got drunk because of the pain and suffering we went through lol...

after we all got sobered up and woke up we started at it again at 12 in the afternoon.

To my supprise my stock throw out bearing was SHOT.. it makes a slight grinding noise when you turn it by hand and also the boot was torn :O

I installed the flywheel

pretty sexy if i do say so mounted on there

then I installed the clutch. Side note this is the first time i EVER did a clutch and its SO simple.

after this we installed the tranny and got everything back on the car by 8PM Saturday. Which sucked because i was hoping
for this to be a one day project with PJ's directions but alas it wasnt. ah well at least its road worthy now. I still need to bleed
the clutch a little more because its not really tight enough but its enough to make it grab at the very top of the pedal so i will finish
that tomorrow but at least my car is working now. in total i spent 770 for clutch and flywheel from APlusPerformance (thanks jason) and
i spent 400 on the used tranny. all in all i was happy i did it this way... at least i learned something.. Also i LOVE the flywheel it made
my motor Rev so much faster and it seems to pull so much better now.

and this is for GM and there @!#$ty Getrag tranny. and the pain and suffering to get this SOB out.

Cool, good job. It's always so much more rewarding doing it yourself.
On a side not, it prolly would have been a 1 or 2 day job if you would have started earlier than 2pm (like 8am) and didn't get drunk on friday night (start saturday at 8am).

Team GREEN did 2 clutches in 1 day

Oh and btw good job on saving yourself tons of money by not having a shop do it.

well after driving it for a whlie today the clutch pedal isnt getting better but i have been told by John Higgins on here that its normal. so i have got 80 miles on her already and the clutch is starting to grab harder and harder mile after mile so i cant wait to reach that magic 450 mile break in period for that clutch

man you got that right i cant wait..... hey paul didnt you put a spec clutch in your car? if you did is your clutch pedal soft as hell?

i tried telling PJ it's just easier to loosen ther bolts on the subframe and tilt it down 4 inches. I can have 5 spd trannies out in 2 hrs... easy rofl....

good luck and hope you enjoy that spec clutch, cause I know am not enjoying mine...

my car USED to have a SPEC clutch in it, and it seemed fairly drivable, but its been awhile, and I didn't drive it much with that clutch in it....I currently have an ext slave in my car using a stock HO clutch...so with that in mind...my clutch pedal is VERY soft and linear. they do soften up with time, but not a whole heck of a lot....getrag clutches are stiff anyways, I hate driving the newer cavs lol

Is the getrag bigger than the Isuzu POS? I used PJs cutting hack job method and it worked wonders. I did take the tranny OUT without cutting anything or dropping the sub frame. However putting it back in was easier with the cut. I did mine by myself and took about 5 hours.

So how did you put it in, the old selft tranny jack? I usually just put the tranny on my chest on a creeper roll under and throw it up, works good.

You learned something new, and saved a ton of money!

when we took it out one of my best friends had it on his chest and it kept getting cought on the sub frame and rolling the diff up ward was very hard to do but we eventially got it out... when we put it in my firend who helped take it out wasnt around to help me again (hes a bigger dude he wasnt in the pics i posted so yea he helped alot being bigger) so we dropped the subframe and just used a 3 ton floor jack that had a 5 inch diameter head on it... worked great....
