Fiberglass in headlight Intake.

Well I got the idea off a lancer I saw a while back so I decided to go a head and give it a try.
My intake will be mounted in the headlight running in to a custom air box then straight to my HO manifold this will most likely only be used on track.

For sure not finished yet still a lot of work. i started on it today and work on it a total of 1 1/2 hr so i got pretty far we'll have to see what the final product comes out looking like.

It all cones down into the pipe doesn't really look like it in the pics but it does.

let me know what you think.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

nice idea if it helps gain anything bud!

im not sure what you have in mind as a final project, but if you had time, perhaps make a f/g copy of the lens rather than the housing. then extend the pipe all the way forward to the face of the f/g copy (this will give it a clean look for it will be flush with the bumper and hood). you can still make it functional if you mounted a HELLA projector (due to the fact they are almost waterproof) on the inside of the housing by cutting a hole for it, and mounting it from the back.

like i said, i dont know what you have in mind for the end project. but this is just another way to go about it.

good job, and good luck with everything!!!!

It looks like a very direct ram air set up to me. It would prolly show some gain above 60 or so. It is definately the coolest of air coming in, and if the car doesn't have to suck as hard to get air, it makes it more efficient!

For those of you who aren't familiar with Pauls build, you should check out his registry to understand that this is by no means a stock engine...

i don't get what your saying with making a copy of the stock lens if i did that it wouldn't cone down to the pipe?

Other wise sounds like a good idea.

Exactly, which is also a reason to understand that there in no way a possibility for him to get a 60hp gain from this. A full intake with this mod right next to a full stock intake would'nt get a 60hp gain.

15hp at max is probably the biggest gain you'll ever see. Even with a modified engine, you just wont see that kinda numbers out of just an intake.

Back on subject.

This would be a great idea for racing apps using only one headlight since without the lens it should be lighter then the stock housing, no?

read it again there ....it clearly says "It would prolly show some gain above 60 or so" he did not say 60HP he say "above 60" Ya know......the other accronym "MPH" DOH!!!!!

i think he meant 60mph the max your ever going to see from an intake is maybe 10hp if that.

It looks like its going to 'cause more drag than it should.

I'd make the outer portion the same shape as the Headlight cover. This way not only does it match up to the corner light, and look a bit better, but it will cut down on the wind resistance. Your probably not going to be going fast enough for it to matter, but none the less. Make it effective in all aspects.

No way dude, this is almost a guaranteed 55 to 60 hp.... HA. I meant above 60 miles an hour. And I doubt there will even be a 15hp gain. Prolly more around 4 to 6. I am sure it won't hurt anything, and you never know so I can't wait to see it in action.

hey man looks alright, my friend took his factory light, and took a hole saw and cut it out where the highbeam is (since you never use it), and took pvc and stuck it through the hole threw the headlight ect., and used windshield urethane to seal it!. Turned out nice, and very unnoticeable, and can daily drive it like that!

That would look better and create less drag. Then you could just make a plug for when your doing daily driving.

nifty idea, but you need to remember one important thing :

it's a cavalier

I think what paul is trying to do is create a funnel with the current set up he has. The point is to channel more air in and increase its velocity in order to make the car breathe even easier. I would doubt there is much drag to be worried about with just a head light. I would have t osay that some of the body kits people put on cars cause more drag than about anything else you coudl do to your car. Give the kid a chance to finish it before we all start telling him what is best.

i forsee this working very well. instead of sucing warm air from the engine bay, or trying to suck air all the way from behind the bumper(cold air) you are running the air rght there. shorter run than both, and is getting air. i have seen a few different bmw's (turbo) run this mod, on their stock high beam location.

that means i can't see this mod yielding any noticeable amount of power....by the time he gets to 60 or 70, his run will almost be up.

Have you looked at his build list? His car will have its way with your Nissan any time any place, from a roll or a dig.

lol i suppose you may have a point there, i just looked at the full parts list....mighty impressive.
that said, this is the ONLY scenario in which this mod should be performed...
