Starting off:

I have to work around the weather and my job schedule, so this is taking longer than I thought it would...

Feb 21, 2007

First of I think 3 (maybe 5) boxes that are coming for this swap....

Feb 23, 2007

Second box:

Feb 27, 2007

Third box:

Calipers (yes, that's the stock size calipers... tiny aren't they)

2007 Mar 6 - Today

Before:

Trailing arm ground down (passenger side shown):

Here's me grinding down the backing plate to allow clearance for the rotor:

E-Brake hardware added to the ground down backing plate.

Rotor reinstalled, caliper mounted:

I'm still working on the brake line, I need a metric flare nut wrench to continue with the driver's side... passenger side is going to be a breeze.

Couple suggestions that I came across during the install to make it less of a PITA.

*The e-brake assembly needs to be put together and the dustplate bolted to the bracket before the hub goes back in.
*1 hub bolt doesn't like clearing the e-brake assembly. It required the hammer treatment.
*Having flare nut wrenches, a t-50 torx bit and the right caliper fittings (not anything against Josh, he tried to make sure I had the right fittings, but I have some odd-ball calipers that aren't part of the typical fitting group) makes things that much easier.
*The grinding process is trial and error. Having a straightedge when grinding the trailing arm is helpful.
*Beer, lots of it.
*Good hand soap, lots of it.

More as I get things completed.

Fire can only be driven for about 5 minutes (no coolant hoses or acc belt in prep for the engine swap. Orange Cav needs a lift to do any type of work underneath and since I don't have one of those... Plan for that one is IRS rear. Also you are right on the money. Fire's going to be an auto-x'er. Since the new engine puts me in SM, might as well do the brakes while I'm at it.

Got the passenger side on today. Need to do some fine tuning since the e-brake shoes are rubbing.

Took alot less time on the passenger side since it was trial and error on the driver's.

Pics later... my card reader is being retarded.

Here's the passenger side:

And here's a better shot of the dustplate for anyone else that is planning on this mod (front):

Back:

Last thing to do is wait for the right caliper fittings that I ordered and finish bleeding the brakes.

Today. Had to bus it to work the last 2 days due to a charging system problem on the cav... taking bus = not being able to stop by the PO

Front brakes:

My 16's just barely clear the caliper:

Unfortunately, they are not completely installed... I'm doing a little suspension work up front, so had to take the strut out. Brakes will go back on when the struts go back in.

Unbeknownst to me, I had the rotor hat on the wrong side. Fixed that though.

Got the front fittings in yesterday, put everything together, did a full fluid flush to full synthetic brake fluid.

Had to test 'em out, which meant putting the 2.2 back together. OMG. I'm very impressed. One of the wheel sensors isn't working properly, so don't have ABS, but that was perfect bedding the pads front and rear. Stopping power is greatly improved. I'm very impressed with this mod combo
