Well friday was a big day for me...got LOTS of advice from many guyz here on the org and locals(professionals) about doing it...so hopefully its successful~
Everyone knows that fiberglass has problems BONDING to urithane after the temps change(using 3m equivelant to prevent), so we tried to work around this by instead of putting to much pressure on the fiberglass to HOLD the kit onto the car we literally screwed the skirts onto the car. They will NOT move...they're mounted which will prevent any bending or cracking in the fiberglass itself. We scuffed and literally drilled holes through the skirts so the fiberglass is wrapped in and out and around the skirts. it still has A LOT of work to do...but here's the start of it
after a pretty much all nighter friday...
the start of about 5 hours of prep work
Gotta love a woman that is into cars
Love ya Jez~
All paint off...and ready to go
Brophy(
TheGreenMachine) and his friend..thanks again for the help guys..I'll be seein ya soon..haha
great shot of the front of the passanger side
don't even ask me how she fell asleep in the back while we were sanding and grinding??..didn't wanna wake up to go home i guess?
Me at like 3am pretty much high on all the fumes in the damn garage!!
I have a LOT of work to do...I'll be workin on it somemore tomorrow since i have the day off from work finally! I want to glass higher on the sides so it ligns up better and is cleaner down to the skirt. So far I'm VERY happy with how its turning out...I love how it flowzzz
All comments welcome..good or bad. I'm ready for critisizing since I know its pretty much a toss up get the urithane skirts molding to be a successful task...but I hope to be the first!!~
looks..... like something i wouldnt wana help with
more pics then
dman that will be sweet once your done keep up the work
you should of used a 2 part epoxy glue to hold it on im not to sure how well fiberglass will bond to urathane
R.I.P. Brian Klocke, you will never be forgotten
LOOKIN GOOD SO FAR- NOT SURE WHAT YOU ARE USING TO BOND THE SKIRTS WITH, BUT I KNOW MY PAINT SUPPLIER WAS SHOWIN ME SOME "GLUE" THAT IS USED SPECIFICALLY FOR BONDING THE POLY AND PLASTICS TO METAL FOR MINI VANS AND VETTES OUTER SKINS... MAYBE THIS IS/ OR ISNT HELP TO YOU. GOOD LUCK!!! AND YES I KNOW THERE ISNT METAL ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VETTES. LOL.
lots of fun man, cant wait till you come back down. i didnt even notice how messed up off the fumes i was until i laid in bed and and the dressers started moving lol. and dude, we went through 17 cans of mountain dew...

we scuffed it up and used fiberglass bondo... it know it will adhere.
Bondo is a brand. Did you use Bondo fiberglass, Bondo body filler, fiberglass and body filler, or a Dyna-Glass? Like they said you DEFINENTLY SHOULD have used a urethane fuser, or Epoxy to bond the two together, that creates a stronger hold. Once they are bonded you then use a dynaglass or fiberglass product to give extra stength and create a smooth transition between the two. The final step would be a body filler to smooth out the divets, holes and any other SMALL imperfections. Your method may hold up for quite a while, just dont expect it to be permanent....

..its not goin anywhere...the skirts themselves are screwed right into the car itself. we also put about 100 holes into the skirts so the body of the car is pretty much the skirts itself. Its hard to explain, but we put a LOT of effort and talked to a lot of body guys up there 'n they all agreed w/ it.
BTW the work looks good and using screws will give alot of strength and hopefully keep it from flexing enough to crack.

EXACTLY MY POINT
before we glassed AT ALL we made sure the skirts wouLD NOT MOVE at ALL in the area being glassed(cuz we ALL KNOW what even a little bend will do to FIBERGLASS..key word GLASS).
thanks for all the comments and help/advice I got from everyone...I got a bunch of sanding done today...we'll see what the next couple weeks bring...I just need to make up my mind how i want to complete the project...
did I say complete??..never...i meant continue
haha
Weeks? What are you doing, molding the whole car? lol, but for real are you molding the whole body kit? What else do you have for ideas in this project?

HOLY SH#T...we'll just have to make sure its beerz neXt time...but hell it'll take twice as long then it already did
I'm comin up w/ a few other ideas I'm gunna do this winter..look like we BOTH may have a long next year ahead of us
I'm not sure which weekend I'll make it up...i told Jason I wanna stop by his shop next time I'm up there too and what not. We need to start on ur car too!! it may be in storage..but IT can ALWAYS come out for a few pix and modz

dude I just looked through your cardomain..we talked about meetin up one time like i swear like 2 years ago when you were in roch. Ur car has changed quite a bit which is why I didn't recognize ya right away! should come up some weekend 'n spy...haha
Hellz yeah....we did talk a WHILE ago! Hit me up on AIM/AOL if you have it......z2fst4u24
Well I ordered a few more goodies today..they should arive early next week
other then that I got more sanding done today and plan to put on another layer of glass and then some filler...
...nOw..if only the mods to the front and rear angles of the car were coming along as fast as the sides
And what are the goodies? What mods are you doing to the rear and front angles of the car?
yeah what goodies? can i help install them? and when are you coming back that was fun i wanna do mine next.
TheGreenMachine wrote:yeah what goodies? can i help install them? and when are you coming back that was fun i wanna do mine next.
haha 4real?? dude yeah...4sure
we'll just go down to the store and buy out all of their damn fiberglass and get high all weekend..hahaha
what days would work out best for us to meet up for a couple days atleast?? We gotta do it before it snows cuz once it does my cav won't see the light of day till its gone and the salt is off the roads
yeah you guyz are good @!#$..i had a hell of a time Chris~ LEMME KNOW
ummm well a weekend would be the best... i would have to know about 2 weeks ahead of time so i can take time off. but hell yeah youn need to come back SOON
TheGreenMachine wrote:ummm well a weekend would be the best... i would have to know about 2 weeks ahead of time so i can take time off. but hell yeah youn need to come back SOON
hmm..i'm hopin we don't get much snow this winter so it allows us to meet up quite a bit~ 2night i got about 2 hours of sanding in(went to menards and bought a heater and 2 heat lamps for my garage), worked on the passanger side the entire time. WHen puttin the fiberglass on we gotta be a lot more careful not to put it where the paint is still on the skirts. its a pain in the ass cuz we kinda rushed towards the end just to get glass on so nothin woudl happen on the way home..but Im payin for it now
things are finally takin shape though, the skirts lining up perfect, and I've almost got the glass off the skirt(where not needed). I bought somemore glass to smooth it out and make some touchups where its not even, and then I'll get some body filler to make the final touches which I'll hopefully be ready for when I come up next....right now its not lookin good cuz I had to stop 2night cuz my thumb is bleeding from all the damn sanding!! hurts like a beotch!!
STILL don't know what i think about the rear yet..won't know till i get some angles of the car outside of the garage~ I'll try and get somemore pix of the progress this weekend...might be hard considering i work tomorrow sat AND sun..ahh~
its gonna look good all molded like that but I dont really trust fiberglass on urethane at all.
you can just get some urethane welder.. $30 a tube plus $60 for a gun in canadian dollars.
and what happened to the front?
he rear ended some poor old lady...
the big mouth hates old ladies.
