My Sunfire pix (modem OK)

Here's some pix of my 97 GT right after painting flames on the hood.
It's not nearly as custom as some of the cars I've seen here, but this is my year-round daily driver. There's dust on the hood, overspray from the clear coat. I didn't want to risk spotting the clear by rinsing it off for a few pix, and there's a little adhesive left from the tape that has to be cleaned off in a day or two.

The license plate is recessed into the hood, I thought the bracket on the nose spoiled the lines. And the grill has been opened up and filled with black wire mesh.

Wheels are painted to match the car, vent shades on the windows, rear windows tinted 95% black and the side emblem is painted gold to match the flames.

Gold painted section, removed that horrible tweed upolstry on the door panel and recovered with black vinyl. Check close to the windshield, I painted flames there too.

Sony X-Plodes, I know some ppl here don't like them, but I do. Check the black square between the speakers, it's a little fan to keep the amp in the trunk cool. I have a switch in the console to turn this on, and another switch to turn on the pusher fan I put in front of the radiator.

So, what do you think for my first attempt at painting flames on a car?
Love it? Hate it? Think I should use my time more productively?

^^ H8ers LOL

The paiunt dont look too bad, im not sure on the stock green with gold but to each his own.... you should invest in some aftermarket rims, lose the ventshades, and get a drop on that thing! Lose the 4x4 look, i know mine looks bettter lowered. IM not sure on the hood plate thing, its cool in a custom way but it odnt flow very well.... but on the ohter hand its either on the bumper or in the hood I guess.... I love the opened up grill, it jsut looks kind of thin around the edges. Overall you did some good semi-inexpensive, non bolt-on work, props for that. Oh BTW, shave the sunfire badges/ moldings, youll thank me.

Its not the cleanest, but I seem to remember people trashing some of the more wildly custom modded cars in here, and those cars/ owners with the right guidance turned those cras into good quality, nice looking rides, you dont have to bolt on 6k worth of parts to make a ride your own style. *sigh*

@!#$ you lmao.. ur just mad cuz manta green and black look better than manta green and white.. o u know u love my style

but yeh to the poster.. sorry man ur car aint doing much for me.. i guess i admire teh work somewhat but not the result.. teh license plate looks bad..i dunno if it looks better then if it was just ziptied to the bumper grille... and the bumper is a decent idea.. might look good on a better done up car.. but im not feeling it there.. and sorry but the flames.. different yes but ugly.. i can understand that maybe u did them urself.. but they dont look good or flow together at all..

I see teh car in the background so i can kinda see where the style of modification came from.. but im not feeling it... i don't think you'll have any luck gettin compliments on it..

i give you props and doing your own work but yeah it is bad execution

i can tell you live in ohio so the cops and troopers will not like that front plate because it can't be seen from in front that well

the bumper grills dont flow with the car

paint if you like green and gold good for you

but honestly I'd ditch the bumper and hood for new ones

Its not exactly in my tastes, but I would of said use black for the flames, highlight edges with a different shade of green and go further with the flames.

The fan on the back is kind of a good idea. Although I don't think you would need it, if it's quite, then it's a pretty neat mod.

I do like the sony explode, but leaving them out there is just begging for them to be stolen. It also looks pretty ghetto. They need to be covered asap. Remove those silver things over the speakers, and put back on the rear panel.

The gold on the door looks very out of place. I'd paint it body colour.

The licence plate looks really out of place on the hood. I give you props for trying something different, but it looks pretty silly. I'd make a bracket instead, that would hold the license plate on the front bumper, but is removable. You could
have it held on with I pins. Then just remove the plate and frame when you don't want it on, or at shows.

The rims don't looks bad painted body colour, but it painted "gun metal" or polished would look amazing.

The flames are a good first try. Most likely because of the colour they look off. If you brought the gold down and covered the bumper with it, it would look much better. It would look really good if they were ghost flames instead of the gold aswell.

I give you props for the work, and for trying to do something yourself. Although I do think that the execution
could have been better though.

I think would you should try and do is more simple mods. Things that are not really noticable to anyone but you and jbody fans. Ie: shortened antena, body coloured rear panel (inbetween tail lights) painted handles and mirrors, ect.

Geeze, I didn't mean to contribute so much to bulimia!

Thanks for taking the time to post your opinions, especially Dick Johnson's subtle request that the car never be driven in sight of others...(loved that post!)

I like how it came out, and my next project will be to add more flames to the sides. I'll spare you the pics, don't want to cause anymore projectile vomiting...

Wow... never seen a car painted by a one-armed immigrant Monkey that was blind and bludgeoned a dozen times in the head until now...

Tell it he did a great job. Next time hire a 3-year old to mask and paint it, they'll do a better job.

Just my 2¢

things i like:
the little fan in tha back, im a sucker for gadgets
the door wrapped in vinyl, not a huge fan of the gold, but it doesnt look bad

things i dont like:
the grill, you opened it up too much
the flames, they are justkinda there, theres no real purpose or tie in with even the fenders, they are just kinda on the front of the car
the license plate, why butcher your hood?

the car loks ugly from the front. real ugly. shoulda did moresubtle flames like black, that wouldnt have been as noticable. woulda looked somewhat better

1) Different, not a good color scheme IMO but it is different.

2) Hide those rear speakers, they may not be worth much in any regards, but breaking into your car will cause much more lose in $$$.

3) A pusher fan is not needed on our cars, Besides a pusher pan blocks a good amount of air to come into the engine bay.

4) I would have changed the grill to a set of black steel or alumium bars, slightly angled down. Posiibly the old thermostaticly controlled grill louvers.

You've got some skill, I'll give you props for that. It loosk like a hodge podge of starnge ideas. Parts of it could be good if done differently. I look forward to where you go with the car, but not really liking where it is now.
Defintaely cover up those speakers or you won't have them for long.

Bet some of you guys think you're real cool insulting him on an online forum... Didn't your mothers teach you that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all.

If its not your style say that, don't say "THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, I LOST LOST MY FOOD FROM ALL I ATE TODAY! NOW I HAVE TO CLEAN UP MY COMPUTER, MONITOR, MOUSE & DESK OF NASTY PUKE! PLEASE DO NOT EVER SHOW ANYONE PICS OF YOUR CAR, LET ALONE ANYONE SEE YOU DRIVE THAT "THING"!"

Get a @!#$ life.
