1st time pics 02 Cav (56k, Why are you still 56k?)

Hello everyone. I’ve been a member of the org for a few years now. I don’t really post much as most of my time here has been spent researching and learning. The jbody community has been very supportive in helping me achieve the car I set out to build, and I’d like to thank all of you for that. Without further ado here is my story and pictures of my ride.

In May of 2003, I purchased my very first car, a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24. That car was the result of years of saving and hard work. The end product was a highly modified sport compact that excelled in every aspect of performance while maintaining a unique attractive appearance. Sadly, on 4-21-2005 the dream came to an abrupt end when the car was totaled due to the negligence of another driver.
Though the unfortunate loss of my Z24 broke my heart, it did not break my spirit. I endeavored into a search to find a car of similar stature and was lucky enough to find this 2002 Ecotec Powered Cavalier LS Sport. With a new ride underfoot, I set out on the arduous journey to finish what I had started years before with the Z. Within 1 year I had regained all that I had lost, and then some. I chose the Cavalier because of its power, its look, and the fact that it is a very underrated car. I am pleased with my choice and am proud to own a J-Body.

Ah yes the Notorious RSM Supercharger Kit. Recently the company has come under attack from the jbody community. Trust me when I say that it was a difficult decision to go with this kit. After extensive research I noted that the majority of people with this kit were happy with it. Seeing as I have a 2002 Automatic Ecotec, I was left with virtually no options for a pre-made kit. J tuners did not have a turbo kit yet, Hahn would not work with an auto, and GM told me their charger would not work with my car. I learned about all the problems people had with the kit and what to expect. I addressed the issues with RSM and worked out a price that was far below the asking price. In all honestly I am very happy with this kit, and their customer service. To my surprise everything works well, my A/F ratios are fine, I have no leaks, no engine codes, no fitment issues (other than some mild rubbing on the hood) and I always see a solid 5psi of boost from the stock belt. I wasn’t setting out to build a 13 second track star; I was merely trying to get back what I had lost when I lost my Z24. I almost fear to say it, but the Eco on 5 psi pulls just as hard (if not harder) as my Z with 4.5lbs of boost did (and that’s all I really wanted).

If car domain acts up visit: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2377838 for pictures of this ride, my Z, and a full modification list.

Enjoy!

I usually hate chrome, but your car pulls it off nicely.

A very nicely modded car, good job.

The only thing on the car I don't like is the tails. Other than that, that car is perfect. Well.... maybe an aftermarket steering wheel, never did like the cav stockers. Looks hot, keep it up!

Thanks! The seats were originally out of a totaled sunfire in Michigan. I saw them on eBay and had to have them. I had to custom make the chevy symbols to cover where it said “Sunfire”, but the result turned out nicely.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

I hear that a lot about the chrome lol. If you’re not a fan of chrome and you still find a liking to my car, then that means a lot. Thanks!

I’m from Amsterdam (about 1 and a half hours East of Syracuse). Millennium is a small body shop that has done virtually all the work to my car. They are currently sponsoring me for local shows this summer. If you ever head up this way, feel free to shoot me an e-mail and let me know.

strat81 wrote:not a fan of the wheels or tails. rest of the car is mint. nice work.

Yeah I am usually not a fan of Altezzas on most cars, but many have told me I pull it off because it matches the car. As for the rims it’s always 50/50. Either people love them or they hate them, never any middle ground lol. Thank you very much for the props though!

o4Black Fire wrote:Very nice... Glad your happy with the RSM kit.

Thank You! You think you’re glad? lol The whole negative RSM explosion happened just after I purchased the kit. I was worried for a while, but luckily everything turned out good.

Thanks for the comments. That’s a good suggestion. I might look into a new steering wheel next year.

Thank you. I am really pleased with the interior. Thanks for noticing. I got that Mp3 player out of a 04 Grand Am GT. I absolutely love it. Factory fit and finish, door chimes unhindered, Mp3 capability, red display, and noone is going to bother stealing a factory radio out of a cavalier lol.

Amsterdam.... ha ha.. yes i have been there before. I met a JBO member there to pick my my CF hood and fenders. Its 1/2 way between poughkeepsie and where i live. It was a fun drive out there, but your city there right off the thru way is confusing as all hell.

GM offered them for a short time as an optional accessory package. They no longer offer them, but this may help you find something similar: http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=45&i=74688&t=74688 and….

He is right. You might want to look for a quality upholstery shop to get something like these installed properly.

Thanks! In all honesty your car was one of the inspirations for me to get that kit. I remember looking at your cardomain page years ago (before I think you even joined the org) and admiring how well it flowed with the lines of the cavalier.

Oh yeah. It can be a real pain for someone unfamiliar with the area. All the one way roads leading to every which way except where you want to go lol.

John car looks sweet. Everybody, the car looks 10X better in person. Sounds phenominal too. I just wish he would take it to the track this wed night and see what he would run.

John, you know I love those pictures. I'm glad you decided to s/c your baby, now you've got to make that trip down to RI so we can cruise the beach! You have a sweet car made even sweeter with boost; lovin' it. Let me know how the intake tubing situation turns out.
