Ok, So a buddy of mine doesnt come on here, but I figured this was something you guys would be interested in seeing. This is an 87 Cavalier RS Convertable. When it was purchased last year, it was in rough shape.. but there were big dreams for it.
The first thing to get changed was the mess of a top.

In the fall of 05, it was taken to a body shop here in the Ottawa area caled DRD Automotive. these guys are pro's. This is where the teardown started. OOOOH Look at the Cancer!!!
Old 2.8 with 250,000 KMS.
And Out she comes
Ok, this isnt good..
With the Engine out, and everything stripped... The body work began. Since there are no body kits available, the only way to lower the body lines is to extend the bumpers.
Strut towers were shaved to be much smoother
Door handles... Gone.
Then the Floors were started..
Firewall was repaired.
All 4 fenders were lowered, to get rid of some of the wheel gap.
Well, Obviously that Tired old 2.8 couldnt stay in there.. so here's the new powerplant. There are some HUGE surprises comming with this, but I wont get into that just yet
And a couple toys going in. I know they arent the best of quality, but definately a nice touch.
This should be done in 5 weeks... (Crossing fingers) for the JCO Bash in St.Thomas Ontario.
There are some custom touches being added in the interior, but until its near its final stages, there wont be pics
Gotta keep some surprises.

that car is screaming potential...good to see someone take interest in a 1st gen.
Oh, and the lights are being replaced with new housings that incorporate the new bulb design, there will be exhaust tips in the openings on the rear bumper. the exhaust has been replaced with 2.5" Piping, split to dual exhaust, No cat.
New rims have already been purchased. 17" Montegi's , not sure the exact model.

Very nice, but one question? Why not go with some lowering springs to reduce the wheel gap rather than modding the fenders? Just wondering..

^^ proof kits for them exist , granted 2nd gen and 1st are slightly different , but close enough for modifactions
He didnt want the car extreemly low, and there would be gap, even with springs. so this way if its not low enough, he can add springs. If it looks good, he can stay stock and keep it a bit higher without the wheel gap.
His choice really.. its just the way he wanted it.

they could make 50 kits for that car, and i still wouldnt kit it, i like what u did to lower the bumpers, subtle and little lower and looks good. keep it on the track its going.

Looks like you took a piece of garbage...OK....so it had rims on it.
And it is being rebuilt into a absolute dream machine.
The finished product should be a incredible ride.
