heheh, no not woodgrain, just from the brush strokes and the thickness of the pigment in the resin. I put pigment in the resin to help me sand out the high spots better.
The filler I used to build up the shape was Evercoat reinforced with short strain fiberglass. Its fairly stiff and easy to shape with and hopefully wont ever crack.

Strange question but isnt that location going to give you problems? Since you heater and AC pipeing is right behind that?

just curious why you decided to put matting down over top of the short strand?

i know alot of people with great results just using shortstrand.. looks like alot more work than you needed to do?

I dont want to go through all the work and have it crack out on me, thats just a work mat not a m-16 box. Still waiting for everything to fully cure, im anxious to get some primer on it.

looking nice, you just should have done all your layers of fiberglass at once and you could have saved allot of time. u dont need to wait for the first layer to dry before you start the next.

Whats the red stuff? You mentioned you put pigment in the rezin. Did you add red pigment to the rezin or something? If so what does this help with? Sorry just confused, Ive never seen that done before and just looking for tips on my next fiberglass project.

Looking good too! So smooth!

If you pigment the layers when you sand it you can see the high spots because you sand through the pigment layer and it helps you see the contours better. Im waiting for the layers to dry so I can sand in between layers. Today Im going to wet sand it, if its turns out okay I may go ahead and start preping it for primer.

Okay some updates...
Here's whats going on, the black rubber peices, Im making a fiberglass mold tonight, and then going to cast 3 of them and they will get molded on to the rest of the bezel, so the guages will drop in like so and everything will look clean.

Heres some pics with the guages (yes I know Im not boosted yet, but its in the works)

Okay so I attempted to make the pod bezel mold tonight, well see how it turns out, also went ahead and reinforced the back sides of the dash bezel with some fiberglass so hopefully will reduce any stress cracks which could occur in the paint once its installed.
If the mold goes well hopefully well have everything together by the end of next weekend for primer.

For the mold basically I glued the rubber piece to a block of wood, coated it all with several layers of wax, then made a frame for the mold by using a hole saw to cut out the inside of a equal size block. Then layed down to very fine layers of fiberglass then sandwiched the mold frame between 2 thicker layers. I may have some filling to do on the backside if I didn't get all the air bubbles out, so this is trial #1.

Okay so I decided to go ahead and use the rubber bezels for now, but Im probabally going to have some aluminum ones machined later on, but I think it will look good none the less.
tonight we got 3 coats of primer on. After it dries some more sanding (oh god no!) another coat of primer and finally time for paint! Booyaz!
