Pics Of My GFs 1996 Vert 5 Speed (Restoration)

Well me GF originally had a 1995 Cavy Coupe 2.2 stick but she crashed it and it was a throw away,

After that was gone I needed to find her a new car, but she only had about 1500$. I found a guy on a local car site who had one and blew the motor and had it sitting in his grandpas front yard. He posted up he wanted a automatic car for his grandma, I traded him a 1995 Grand Am SE which I had $800 invested in for the cavalier vert. The kid had the motor half apart, AC taken off, starter, alternator, intake mani, IDI cover, wirering harness in a rats nest, no hood. The car was a mess but I knew had potential, and another thing, the kid threw all the nuts and bolts into either the trunk or into a can which was left outside to be rained on and rust into a ball.

This is what it started out as

So I got it out of the mud, pieced together which bolts go where, figuring out where the harness connects to, repairing the broken wires and started rebuilding. I found a motor with 71K on it, $475 out of an Achieva to transplant in. I got the car to the shop and had the motor out in one night after work, I pulled the engine and trans together because being a 5 speed it was just easier. Before I got the car the kid had a centerforce dual friction clutch and pacesetter header so I swapped the clutch.pressureplate onto the new engine and tranny and reassembled everything. Here are a couple of pics along the way.

Me realizing I still had a tranny mount connected, haha.

After the swap my GF cleaned the hell out of the car and somehow got it to look like this. Only mods on it are, Cone filter, Centerforce Dual friction clutch, clear corners, pacesetter header. I did this about a year ago but just yesterday got the pics off the camera and uploaded them. In total my GF has about $1,475 total in this car between motor, and cost of car, and miscelanious things. Not to bad especially for a convertible 5 speed with 71K.

Thanks for looking

Chris

Yea, I drive the purple one, but its supercharged with a new built motor going in so it compensates, lol.

John, I too have the service manuals, got them off ebay for 51$ a while back. I dont use them too much though, thanks.

I will get some motor shots, we cleaned the motor up real good and it looks good. I will get some pics today of the engine.

Thanks
Chris

go to eBay and get some NEW replacement carpet for the red one, will make the interior look and smell like new.

My friend Kyle's G/F has a sedan. and her carpet looks like that, and smells bad. So this winter when I put my new carpet in mine I'm giving her my carpet, we are hopeing her car looks ALOT better without stained carpet.

The Red vert is sharp looking.

Shes into the car scene, but mostly just rides with me. I know she wants to mod her car but really doesnt have the money for that. My cars the tuner hers is the commuter and reliable one. Its a nice ride stock however. Definantly not bad for $1,475, only thing that would make it better is a spoiler.

Her old Cav looks a hole helluva lot better than the Cav I saw a few blocks from my house last night!! I guess it was turning left during a yellow, and somebody goin' the other direction sped up to make it thru the same yellow.... yea, it was bad. The whole front end got smashed to hell, fluids from rad spilled all over, so sad

New one is lookin' pretty good And just think, when you replace some of your aftermarket stuff, you can just paint it red and stick it on her car
