Repainted Z24 wheels for my '97 RS

I recently completed a paint detail for a set of '00 z24 wheels for my daily driver. A little background on these: I started out by figuring out what to do in terms of a mild upgrade for my daily driver. I had this car for two years, and when I first got it the mechanicals were in excellent shape. The paint and body was suffering from a bit of neglect due to a bad dent repair, parking lot dings, and a lack of adequate paint detailing. I liked how these wheels looked painted, as it reminded me of the look of the legendary 'SS wheel covers that were featured on the '65 chevelle SS and other classic chevy SS models (may be going back way too far for some here). I wanted the outer weight mount rim to be machined polished, while painting the recess areas between the spokes with black, 2-stage paint. I was originally going to put the '02 chrome ten spokes on, but I preferred the somewhat daring look of these wheels. Later during the past year I saw one or two examples of this wheel painted up similar to what I wanted, so I was even more encouraged to finish this detail.

Well, after a year, and a few mishaps here and there, and more money spent getting the car in shape, I finally completed this detail. Mind you, I also decided to retain the stock suspension set-up due to the fact that this car will still be a daily driver, and the roads here in NY can be quite hard on the suspension. If for some strange reason things change with the use of this car, I may consider a drop. For now, I think I've pretty much gotten the look I wanted while retaining the stock look.

Ok enough talk: here it is (first time)

Phase 1: What I started with. Dependable, no dents (but plenty of dings), but uninspired looks.

Phase 2: Repainted driver's side; aggressive polish of remaining original paint.

Standard Z24 alloy

Newly repainted and detailed

Thanks ladies and gents. Kind of taken a back a bit. I am really appreciative of the nice comments, but I was unsure of how you all would react. I knew that I liked the wheel design, so I took the chance. There was one cavi (It was a silver z) that did this scheme, but that one was polished vs. black, as opposed to painted vs. black. They both looked the same, and when I saw that one, I was also worried that my well worn car may not take to the wheel mod as well (which was probably what made me go and fix the body that early.....I wasn't planning to do t hat for awhile...ouch!).

I didn't do the paint and finish myself; A professional wheel refurbisher did it for me (I'll keep this short....that ordeal of going through a couple of people is a post in itself). However, if you have the time, adequate space, and either an oven or a chamber to heat the wheels, then I'd encourage anyone to take a chance and go for it. It really did wonders for the RS scheme, I think, and in general I also think it would do wonders on any cav. I liked the '00 z24 alloy design a lot.

Cool...thanks a bunch!!!!
