Vert. Tonneau cover v.2
Thursday, August 11, 2005 6:08 PM
You can refer here if your just tuning in http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=46&i=160782&t=160782.

So here is version 2 ... I raised the "floor" of the cover so it will rest on the tops of the quarter trim panels and made it a little longer to get closer to the seatbacks. Also made a second "pod" design that I think flows with the seats a little better.

I'm not going to make the cover go over the top when it's down. So it's not replacing the factory boot. It will be hinged at the back so I can raise it to show off the sub encloser.

Also I will be extending a small area between the seats downward to try to avoid getting to much wind under it and blowing it off. And yes I will come up with a way to fasten it down.

Opinions Please.... Good or bad , just trying to get the look right.

i love your concept john. when making the cover for the celica...

we used the big round tube things that you put into a hole and pour cement into it to make a foundation for a pole (sorry, i have know idea as to what they are called). we just cut them at an angle and glassed them. i love your way though. im sure it is so much lighter than ours. keep up the great work!!! i love it.

looks really good, you could fasten it down like the vettes, a seatbelt on the cover that buckles into the back seat belts, just an idea

That looks really good. Just make it removable so you can use your rear seats if necessary.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think this will be the look I'm going with. But I'm sure I'll make some changes and refinements as I go along until I'm either satisfied or just to tired to worry about it anymore.

Josh, that cover looks great. I had thought about going and buying some concrete forms but didn't think the straight line down the spine of the hump would flow right. Looks great on the Celica though.

I definitely like version 2 better than version 1. Raising up made all the difference

I say do it!

Then paint it to match the car, with ghost flames and all.

I love it, SOOO much better than v.1. I think it would look sweet if you rounded out the edge where they meet the flat board. It would flow with the area of the seat that your shoulders touch and would smooth out the whole design.

Looks great though. Did you make it the same way you made the first one, with wood and expandable foam?

I'll sweep in some pretty generous radii around the bottoms of the pods. I was also thinking about making a raised area between the pods , maybe 2"'s or so and blending that back to end with the pods.

No, that's just some tooling foam (foam board) blocks I had laying around. Since it was fairly straight cuts I just drew it out with a marker and ran it through the bandsaw and blocked it smooth...

looks good so far, i think it would look awsaome if you make it come down between the 2 seats, kinda like on the corvette's
