Well after a long time searching and talking about it I finally picked up a 99 Z24 motor. It came out of a malibu. Ill be doing the swap over the winter.. Here are a few pictures of the new toy all torn down somewhat.. It came as a complete engine except harness.
The engine is getting a complete rebuild from the inside out. Forged internals, ya know the goodies. Then to top it all off will be a turbo kit.
Ill have progress pictures of the buildup probably in the performance section in a couple months so stay tuned!!
Here's what it will be replacing. Dont worry, this new Z engine will have just as much polishing done, if not more.
Comments & questions are welcome

Not to say you're doing anything wrong, but why didn't you go with an ecotec? You can get the GM build book, and really, it's a better motor if you're going to go for all out performance. I imagine you're going to have to do some custom engine mounts (or modifcation) already (unless the iron duke and the LD9 use the same motor mounts?). I was just wondering though, i'm sure there's a reason.
Good luck with everything, keep us updated!
hehe we have the same project going on

Because Id need a whole donor car to do the eco swap. There is much more needed to do that swap from a pre 2000 car to my 97. Believe me, it crossed my mind but not worth all the cost to do it. As for the engine mounts, they are the same. I just need the upper engine mount from the LD9 because its SLIGHTLY different from my 2.2 Motor.
Thanks for the comments

sweet man, the 2.4 isint a bad motor at all
have fun with that
the 2.4 is also legal to have in his car... or atleast in cali you can legally swap the 2.4 in. But not the eco. Its all about what engines were available for your car for your vehicle year. But then again anything might be allowed in ohio, i duno

Yeah, that sucks! Here in MI you can put whatever you want into a car... at least as far as i know.
And as far as the LD9 being a good engine... it's ok, but an ecotec is a WAY better place to start from (how many 1000+, or 500+ for that matter hp LD9's have you heard of vs. ecotec?)
not too bad
but with the money you spent...........
tubo.............
nevermind

you cant be serious
sadly, its true. you can't do an engine swap unless it is from the same year as your vehicle, or newer. im not sure about the years of the engine, nor his car, but if the engine is older, then you wouldn't be able to do it in cali.
well this is what the referee had told me. one more reason why i wouldn't mind living anywhere other than cali.

Nice! My buddy is interested in the valve cover NOW, and he has money.
LOL David I've told you what I think but since your putting forged parts in it maybe it will be stronger <~~~ crosses fingers
Yes it is a cavalier deal with it
Thanks guys for your opinions. You dont know how much id like to have the eco. Like I said, I picked the LD9 and thats what Im going with.
My engine parts right now for my 2.2 have to stay until I get this Z motor in. Ill let ya'll know once their up for sell.

The race is on for to see who is done first, but I've been just waiting for things. I don't know when we will build, but I think I might just get it going then build the second one.
