BFZ2 progress

Well... it's getting there...

The engine and auto tranny are out.. tomorrow night the getrag mounts get welded in.

I also finished the head... home port & polish... 1mm oversize SS valves from Karo... Fel-Pro valve stem seals... stock springs, retainers, locks...

The new head:

Close up of one of the exhaust ports. I didn't really do much to the intake ports, just removed the ugly slag bits.. I did quite a bit to the exhaust ports though, port-matched it to the Bill's i-Performance header.. and the exhaust gasket. Probably took off about 1/8th of an inch all the way around.. knife-edged the piece between the two runners in each port..

Here's a stock head vs the ported one:

And with the valves installed:

It's no Induction Dynamics head... nor RSM or J-Body Performance.. but aside from time and the parts, it cost me very little to do it... about 6 hours with the die grinder and various carbide bits, sanding rolls and cross-buffs.. then $250 for the oversize valves to be put in. I'm guessing the total is close to $1000 Canadian now.. just for the head! Yow!

Very nice man, one question.. When you guys do your own port and polishing how do you know how much to grind off and where to stop? Do you use a tool to measure? Yeah, it confuses the hell outta me ha..

Keep it up.

If i'm not mistaken he bought two heads and actually cut one in half so he could see how much material that could be removed.

I think it looks incredible, I only wish I had the time to do something like that.

Eh, I hope it's back together by the time I have to leave for the Bash!! I've got a car show the week before it... I was shooting for then... but now I'm not so sure

For the P&P, I did cut a spare head in half, then quartered it.. so I knew how thick the walls were. They're damn thick!! I didn't take out TOO much.. about 1/3 of what is there.. so there's still plenty of meat left.

I've been taking pics of the progress so far... much more than just these few pics... but I'm going to assume... if you don't know how to take the old transmission out, you're on your own LOL

The white 'vert was the Zex Machine... not exactly a fitting name, since I never really ran the Zex kit on it... but it was installed, so...

I guess I could call this one the Blown Zed... (Canadian, eh?) Boosted Zed? Bah.. let's get it running first

I'll grab that part number for ya when I get home!! I'm at work right now..

WHERE'S THE TRAILER?

Good work thus far, month until bash, dammit!

Re: BFZ2 progress
Thursday, June 09, 2005 12:02 PM
Trailer is on hold... it's standing up against the wall, behind the red 'vert.. you can't even get to it yet!!

It'll have to wait until I have the red car out and running... and the Alero IRS swap done... so I have a suspension on it...
