Out with the old, in with the new (fenders)
Saturday, June 04, 2005 7:01 PM
Jacob & I changed my fenders out today. We've replaced the Z3's with X1's. I think that it flows a lot better w/my hood and isn't as busy in the front end now. I know the car is VERY dirty...we had to do quite a bit of work to make them fit right but it's all good. I'll get better, clean pictures asap.

Those look great on there. I'm sorry to hear they were a pain to install. I guess it's just the difference in cars. I like them much better than the others.

Franklin, yeah, I was hating you today. LOL But I got over it.

97cfcavy, thanks and yeah, get those pics!!!

Ben, thank you...I like them better, too. I can't WAIT to get those pillars!! And now I want a c/f gas lid.

The Other Matt, you don't like the mirrors cause they're chrome? If that's the case then don't worry...they'll get painted w/the rest of the car (whenever that happens!!). If it's the design you don't like, well, then...too bad. LOL

Streaker1369, I liked them, also but there were just so many holes in them. I get tired of things way too quickly.

i think you should fiberglass the vents on the fenders to match the stinger hood... idk, im not really big on the x1 fenders, but they would look better with that hood if they kinda matched. just a suggestion.

Nice. I just put those on mine a couple of months ago. They're my favorite fenders, but man did the fitment suck. Did you get them for the 00-02, or mod them? If they came like that, how did the lights fit? The brackets for the corner lights on mine weren't even close to the right spot.

The gaps are all perfect on mine now, but I still need to blend the windshield line with the door better. The fitment was so bad that I almost cut the vents off and molded them into my factory fenders.

The car is coming along nicely though. I can't wait to see it in paint!

They look a hell of alot better than the older ones and yah fitment sucks on these. I had a 2 inch gap on the bottom of left fender and the brackets were way off on these. I had to use spacers to get the corner light to line up LOL.

Well...I've had that hood on my car since the week after I bought my car (March 2004)...is everyone just now noticing it? LOL...either way, it's probably staying unless I get a carbon fiber hood instead.

This is the only hood I've had in this car besides the stock one that it came with. Maybe you're thinking of my old kandy green cav that had the ram air hood from Spydar Automotive?

They won't be put in primer like the rest of my car. They'll get painted when the rest of the car does.

Yeah, like Ben said, can you show us a pic of what you're talking about??

Thanks for the compliments, and yeah, the fitment sucked! We started to just give up and say screw it after we finally started to get the drivers' side looking OK and then realized the passenger side was just as bad, if not worse. I believe they were for a 95-99, not a 2000+, like mine. They still need quite a bit of work around the corners; my brackets weren't right, either. And where I had kinda went into a ditch last winter, it bent the brackets a little and that didn't help.

Thanks! Yeah, like I said, the fitment sucked and we've still got to work on some of the gaps, too. Some places I could fit my fingers through the gaps and others I couldn't fit my fingernails through!! The doors rubbed, the corners still kinda rub...oh, well, the whole car has major work ahead anyways.

Crystal, I definitely think that these fenders look a lot better than the Z3's. I'm not a big fan of the X1's but they seem to flow well with your car. BTW the car is looking great and I can't wait to see it painted. I do have a question for you however. You mentioned above that the fenders are for the 95-99. Where abouts did you cut the bracket off to accomodate the 2000+ corner lights? I have a set of D1 fenders at home waiting to go on and I am upgrading to the 2000+ headlights. I can probably figure it out but I just wanted a little heads up before I get started. Also, where did you get your blitz front? Just let me know, thanks in advance.
