Looks really nice. The only complaint being that the yellow's don't really match. But you did your best, and it looks somewhat close. Good job!

looks nice man but one comment, and this goes for everyone on the .org

if you're gonna accent your interior, the best thing to do is go to a paint shop and have them can some of your factory color paint, or even better, if you have a compressor and a paint gun grab a quart of it. It makes it look so much nicer when the color flows from the outside color to the inside.

Ken96Z... 300hp... not yet... maybe after i paint the last part

Boarddorggohome..... thanks.... i know that the yellow isn't the exact match.. and there was only one yellow with the fuzion.. getting the right colour would have been the best move. when the doors are closed you can't tell the difference.... that much

keep em comin' good or bad.. everyone has their right for they have to say about it.

it was just a little something that i wanted to do.. the car is mainly a "race" car (solo2 events)

I like it....the worse thing is that damn lower dash. It takes a lot of work to get to it. I spent a whole day on mine alone from taking it out, prepping it, painting it, and installing again.

Can you give some directions on what you did. Prep, did you sand? how much paint and clear coat you used etc etc & any special steps?. I'm looking at doing some of my interior.

Oh ya I read you didnt sand b/c you wanted it to look stock grain look.

Regards,

Sorry for double post.

sure thing...

as i stated before i did not want to sand so i could keep the stock texture... however i read that some people started with 100-120 grid then 200 -220 to smooth it out.... if you want is smotther go 300-400 grit.

the krylon fusion recomends that a paint thinner can be used on un weathered surfaces i ( i cleaned the surface 3 times with the thinner to be sure that all oils were removed) or if the surface is weathered us an amonia based cleaner... i understand that window/ glass cleaner is amonia based... but i do not know how that would work.'

masking the doors was a bit tricky... i had to use the thinner to clean some of the oils off so that the tape would stick... i used duct tape. and armor all will restore the shine where you used the thinner on non painted parts.

as for the clear coat i didn't use any.

this was my steps..

1- 3 times clean with thinner
2- 2 coats yellow
3- 1 coat white ( could be the reason why its brighter)
4- 4 coats yellow

no clear coat because i didn't want it to be too glossy

one last thing... don't rush it,, take your time

hope that helps

why did you do 2 coats of yellow then 1 coat of white then 4 coats of yellow?? Couldnt you just do 4 coats of yellow?

i like it a lot. The yellow looks fine. I'm kind of at the same stage too where I'm not quite sure how i'm going to paint that peice. I think that taking it out is the way to go instead of masking.

why didn't you try to find another shop that can get you your car color in a spray can? it looks go however.

first of all.... i love it,

but i spose im a wee bit influenced

second of all, some people dont have the experience or know how to spray automotive paint, nor the place to spray it. krylon fusion is a cheap easy way to mod for the people that just want the looks and not the show quality. second of all.... try finding racing seats to match our yellow paint... @!#$e aint happenin!!

keep up the good work Modfire

sorry about the delay in my response... my 100 posts were up and had to wait 3 days

dirty elf wrote:yea why white?.. that makes no sense to me..

well the reason why i used white was.... well at the time i thought that it was a good idea to lighten up the yellow... looking back i think i shouldn't have done the white. maybe red or orange to change the tint.

Live and learn right.. as well as the colour match... i just read alot on the krylon fusion and figured that it was the best option. I didn't really find anything on using automotive paint.

now here's the thing.... do i get the colour match and start over the krylon? will the new paint adhear to the krylon? or to i have to rmove the krylon and start over.... or do i just leave it... as stated before.... you can't really tell the diff when the doors are closed... well not that much

well its only been 4 days and it seems to be holding just fine... mind you if you prep right there shouldn't be any problems... also if you don't cake on the coats and let each coat dry ( i let dry for 20-30min to be safe). the only problem i have is with the passenger side door... you can only see this when its open though.... the door rubs against this little dash cover.. it always has. so where it rubs there is a blemish. well you can't see when the door is closed

hey thats cool.. you have your right to say what you think. and yes the black/charcol grey did look good on its own.

i'm happy with the yellow... even though its a tad off the factory colour.

like i said in the begining of this thread... some will like and some will not
its great to hear the different views and opinions of others

keep em comin!

im one to agree with color matching paint. if you prepped well you could spray right over what you did, but if you didnt prep well enough, it will eventually flaked off. it sounds like you did a good job. but hard to really know just from reading about it. as for the rest of the dash, i say pull the dash out, im not one to paint anything inside the car take the time and pull it out. should only take you an hour or so. really not hard, will take u that long to properly tape up the entire interior anyway.
