New Exhaust Setup
Sunday, May 22, 2005 10:32 PM
Alright, I really wasn't going to be a picture whore, but I got some pictures of my new exhaust and the guys at RD Fabs did such nice work, I figured they deserve to have it shown off a little. Anyways, the setup is all 2.5'' Stainless Steel cat back, with a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, and a nice modest 3'' polished tip.

Yeah, I know the underside of my car is disgusting, but hey... I'm from NY and the car has seen a winter or two. On with the pics...

And the tip, I swear it doesn't stick out like it looks in the picture, it's totally flush.

It's actually nice and quiet... just what I wanted... I wasn't looking for something real loud... has a good sound, not (pardon the expression) "ricey" at all... I'd definitely recommend the muffler...

Thats an awesome setup Dann, where is that place? Did you install the motor mounts I sold you yet? well, keep it up bro!

actually when I had them on my 92 cav they were fairly deep but not ricey till I removed the cat. I want something thats deep and has some sound. but not obnoxious.

looks nice. but why 2.5" on an non boosted motor? isnt that a bit large?

Mark- Yeah, I got the motor mounts in, it was a little bit of a chore getting em installed, but they are working good and the vibrations are finally starting to wear down...

Adam- Yeah, 2.5'' is definitely big for my car right now, it's probably hurting me a little bit, but I do have some plans for it.

Didn't help that your driveway had a nice slope to it which i forgot to pay attention to. That was fun trying to yank that fuggin engine back fowards when doing your top mount after the whole thing moved like 2 inches back... . O well, atleast when i threw your bottom in, its was soo much easier.

that is some awesome welding job, exhaust looks killer, but some of that is 100% unnecesary... i man, they got like a million welds where a mandrel bender would get the job done fine... they have a reason behind that? looks good none the less.

looks good, any reason you didn't have the muffler welded on or the tip welded?

no kidding, everything else is welded on, props on the mad welding skillz but damn that things like 16 differents peices, that should have been like 2 at most 3 peices......

i just sit and listen to my car for hours

The equipment we want to buy that does the tube bending has a price tag of around $10,000. That's why we're doing it like this for now. We'll be purchasing it in the near(er) future, but the lift and some other things just have to come first, unfortunately.

We do tig/mig welding on stainless and aluminum. We also do full custom exhausts, manifolds, intercooler piping and down pipes. What they did looks decent though. They probably dont have a pipe bender and have to buy sections of mendrel bent tubes and piece them together. And even if you did have a bender its difficult to find true 304 stainless in 10 foot sticks.

Most of the time, we clamp on mufflers and tips so customers can change their setups quickly and easily. We're more than happy to weld, but most prefer our method for those reasons.

yeah, when me and another guy i used to work with did my exhaust, we just clamped the flowmaster and the tip, the tip has a chip in the chrome and its nasty looking, so yeah... gotta change that, last thing u wanna do is have to cut it and do a TON more work than you have to when clamps will suffice.
