I just got done doing that to mine last week... just got it out of the paint shop too! Except I have lambos, 00+ drift front, bomex sides, rear, realocated and shaved gas cap, inner tails, antenna, also shaved the rear door handels... and full color change paintjob with a two tone look.. def a big change! Now tell'em to paint that sucka!

the only concern would be if the trunk closed all the way from the gas cap being there
but im sure you worked that out

Dunno bout the gas smell, all the fittings are tight as hell and the cap is airtight, it shouldnt be a problem at all.

Smell shouldnt be an issue where all his connections are tight, cuz the actual filler is on the outside of the trunk seal. and my concern is your strut mount....the L shaped piece where the verticle door stut mounts does not look like its screwed all the way in, you better do that, cuz the little threaded nub on the strut wont handle that pressue if its not threded all the way in, i know this from experience and im just looking out for your safety, that door coming crashing down is NOT a happy thing.


On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Honestly, I'm afraid my battery will die or something and i wont be able to get into my car.... lol. Kinda the same reason i didnt shave the lock on my trunk. if the cable fails its guna be a b**tc to get in the trunk, which incidentally is where my gas filler is... lol.

This is a base model cav, no power windows, no power locks, it has tilt and air. nothing else. So i'd have to get the power locks too.

well..... got some good news and i got bad news..... i am moving wayyy earlier than expected to colorado, but im going where i wanna go. Bad news is, they just started putting the body kit on today and chances are they wont even begin painting till mid-nextweek. I have to be in colorado on the 15th, so ill probably move up there a week early, which leaves my car here.....

Long story short i told them to black primer the whole thing and that I'd take it like that. I hate to halfass something like paint but it is way more cost effective to paint it up there then to take off work, have melissa take off work, just so that we can waste gas and 2 days of driving just to come get my car. SOOOOOOOOOO the final pics you get of the body kit will have NO PAINT!!!! lol... but at least ill have my car in colorado...

AND, for those of you old schoolers, if there are any.... My grandpa is Floyd "Fudd" Pirtle, if you recognize that name, I'll jog your memory.... in his prime, he was a big name in custom paint and body work. One of my earliest car show memories was to walk around the hot rods and see my grandpa's name on most of the credit plaques in front of the cars.

I dropped the wheels and tires off today at the body shop, the car was almost complete,
he had the rear bumper off for primer, and the wing was not mounted yet, but all the
door panels were back on and it looked NICE... Didnt get the primer as dark as i
wanted but hey.... its ust primer, at least its all one color for right now. He said it should
be all back together tomorrow, i juss need to go get some lug nuts that will work with
my wheels. Stockers were too tall for my centercaps. Anyways, I will post some pics
tomorrow after i get it back! I'll have a little less than a week to show out in this one
horse town and set some trendz before i leave for colorado!
