Turbo = Fun Install!
Wednesday, March 30, 2005 2:09 PM
...Ha, yeah right.

Herman and I started work on our turbo project for my car the other day. We were in the garage from 1PM until about 11PM. He left, and I tried fixing things on my own...stayed out there to about 2AM before I hit the sack with a huge headache. Well, we got everything on...but had an oil leak at one of the connections. So now, we're going back at it tonight to try and tighten that connection if we can even get to it. Here's a few (bad) progress pictures. I'm sure I'll have more later.

(And yes, the downpipe is straight up in the air until it gets to an exhaust shop! )

Nothing is ever easy...

Hopefully some more pictures later tonight!

Yeah, non-intercooled. We're just planning on running 4 or 5 psi TOPS for right now (then I'll be upgrading with some new stuff). Thanks

We just finished the install and all of the piping is different now...we took care of that, fixed the leak, and changed the oil. I'll have pictures shortly.

did the down pipe worked when you flip it pointing down?

No fuel mods as of yet (running VERY low psi without it). I plan on buying my fuel pump, FMU, and intercooler within the next few days.

The downpipe didn't work facing down, so we flipped it up and took the hood off. I'm going to have to drive it like that to the exhaust shop tomorrow.

Anyways, here's a new picture:

I didn't want to take pictures until I got the exhaust done, but I figured I would. And yes, that red zip tie will come off tomorrow It runs, but trust me when I say it's no where near finished.

Are u freakin serious? And ur still gonna run a turbo on there with no fuel mods? Say bye bye engine! Ur gonna find ur self starting over at the bottom inside of ur engine soon. If u can't supply fuel don't put it on. Espicially on a 2200.

Kyle here in Colorado's been running his turbo with no fuel mods as well. He's sprayin too!!! He hasn't had any problems yet but trust me when I say he's been one lucky SOB when it comes to his 2.2. I'd upgrade as fast as I could.

couldnt you clock the turbo so it would be pointing down? I dont see how they are going to bend an exhaust pipe without it hitting your hood

and I STRONGY suggest a fuel mod or piston meets valves or rod meets cylinder walls

You can't clock the exhaust side of a turbo.

also what size turbo is it?

T3 Turbo...not sure what the compression rates or anything are though.

Well, the exhaust is on! I got 2 1/4" straight pipe all the way to the muffler (no cat). The guy was SUPER helpful. Sounds great and runs great, I just need to adjust the psi (I think it's only at 2 or so right now). I was very surprised that the bosch BOV sounded as good as it did.

Fuel mods in the next few days...

id keep that boost under 2psi on a small t3 if no fuel mods yet.... your playing with a loaded gun and your finger on the trigger without any fuel mods and even low boost. like i said, id keep it under 2 for the next few days til you at least get an fmu.
